| Personnel Policies and Procedures 4.21 says that the company usually
does not pay such dues. Exceptions can be made if the membership
is directly related to the employee's vocation and if the department
as a whole can benefit from magazines, etc.

| Some cost centers pay for membership. Mine doesn't. I wish it
did; if it did, I would join IEEE, but since it doesn't, ACM is
expensive enough for my budget.

| I have been a member of the American Society for Quality Control
for nearly 20 years and 3 other employers. ALL of the other employers
paid my dues. Only Digital has not. I have been a highly active
member in the past including working with headquarters on major
conventions ( QUAL-TEST I&II) as Programs Manager. The lack of support
of Digital is at the best deplorable. I am now a Senior Member of
ASQC.

| If you are a highly active member I am almost positive that
DEC is funding some of your activity in terms of travel, company
resources (phones etc.).
Some of my past employers have paid my dues some have not. All
have supported the activity when this was stated upfront that it
was important to me.
DEC doesn't pay dues I would imagine because of the cost-multiply
x employees times average professional dues and it is a good
sized figure.
I too am a senior member, have been at DEC for 8 years. DEC
has been very good in support of ASQC activities. As DEC'S
corresponding member why don't you give me a call and we will
talk.
