|  |     Re .0:

    No, I can't agree with that. It's valid to speak out about items
    involving Digital _as a corporation_, its employees, and their
    interrelations. The note that was "set hidden" was a political
    statement , which had _all_ Digital employees in the area come down
    on one side or the other, would have made virtually no difference
    in the outcome of the situation.

    What is this Conference for? I always thought it was to disacuss
    Digital-specific issues. Thus, I can't complain with the moderator
    decision.

    Sorry to have to disagree.

| 370.2 | .1 is right - let's stick to what's appropriate | NEWPRT::BARTH | Karl - the Pigasus rider | Tue Aug 18 1987 12:00 | 15 |
|  | RE: .0
I think .1 made its point well. In addition, I'm not sure that .0, EVEN
IF TRUE, is a bad thing. That's what moderators are for. (More or less -
I'm not trying to get into that rathole...)
Look, sometimes you've got to trust someone. By participating in this
conference, you are trusting the moderator(s) to give you a fair shake.
I think most people, like myself, have no heartburn at all with how this
conference is run.
That's not to say we shouldn't randomly throw a little flak at them once
in a while just to keep 'em awake! ;^))

| 370.3 | It's a question of `where', not `what' | HARDY::KENAH | Mythical Conversation Fragments | Tue Aug 18 1987 13:04 | 10 |
| | If this conference were one of only a few available, and if the
    moderators capriciously censored its contents, then I'd be forced
    to agree with the statements in .0 -- however, there are hundreds
    of conferences on the network, including some that serve as forums
    for inflamatory or controversial statements.

    The statements in .0 were not appropriate *in this conference*.
    That's a far cry from saying they were not appropriate at all.

| | There is not "the moderator" in this conference. Last I looked
    there were 8 of them. A bit more then average I think. In any
    case the issue is not that a moderator disagreed with the opinion
    expressed but that he disagreed with you on where to express it.
    There are large numbers of opinions expressed in this conference
    that one or more moderators disagree with. The difference is that
    they relate to the purpose of this conference.

    BTW, have you complained directly to any of the other moderators
    and/or asked their opinions of one moderators actions?

me.
