What do you know about this new leave of absence for new parents?
I hear its newborn/adopted mom/dad, effective August 10, separate
from the medical short term disablitiy and the manager-discretion
Leave of Absence.
My manager had not heard of it. If I hadn't read about it in the
Parenting Notes File, where would I hear about it? How does Personnel
distribute information about things like this? Would it just be a
new page in the Orange Personnel Manual? Or is there another (better)
way we would learn of such a thing? I know I can call Personnel
(they told me to call back Monday), but that is based on the fact
that I already know there is something to ask about!

It was explained by my manager that this is still a proposal, although
one that fairly certain to become official. Major policy news from
Personnel usually comes from our personnel rep.
As I understand the proposal, parents of newborn or adopted children
will be eligible for up to eight weeks of unpaid leave, in addition to
the maternal disabiity. This parental leave may be taken up to six
months after the birth/adoption. It will not be retroactive.
