It seems like only a few years ago that the Franklin plant opened. It was supposed to have a bright future because unlike some older DEC manufacturing plants it was built to accommodate the latest manufacturing methods (or so I thought). Now, as far as I can tell, it is empty. What happened? Does DEC have any plans for this facil- ity?

I wish I knew Bob! I worked there from the time that it was 3 mos.
old, till the axe fell.
From what I've heard, space is being leased out to some different
groups for short periods of time.
DecWorld, AI, GSX are some of the groups.
It is a beautiful plant in a real nice area.
Such a shame

For a while noone wanted to go there because it was viewed as a
bit of a stretch from the Shrewsbury-Marlborough-Maynard-Andover-
Nashua-Merrimack axis. More recently I have heard that there is
renewed interest because of the crowding and growth within the axis
and the need to stretch some more. One of the more attractive things
is that it is close enough to attract people from Providence, and
to get air service from Providence. It is in a beautiful location.
I suppose time will tell.

I've heard rumors that after Decworld is through the staging process,
that there may be some sort of cable manufacturing going on in an
area on the floor.

Franklin is more than just a nice facility. The attitude that
prevailed through the plant exemplified Digital at its finast.
That attitude faded away as the final days approached.

As a comment to .2...Yes, alot of people were hired out of various
schools, etc in the Prov. area. Some of them quit DEC after 3 years
because of the plant relocation. Many of us relocated our families
to the R.I. area to be close to our plant.
I was one of those families who moved about 40 miles, {no relo.
benifits}, to be near work. A group of us, including myself spent
numerous week-ends, holidays, {i was there once on christmas eve,
and new-years eve}. We stayed late and worked through snowstorms.
Now I am back to driving 40+ miles to work in Marlboro, where I
origionally started. I now have relo benifits, but would much rather
have stayed at FXO to pursue my carreer. Now I get to relocate,
loose touch with my friends, go through family changes, etc... once
again.
I've been with DEC for over 8 years, and have enormous faith and
trust, but cannot help in being bitter. We had such spirit! It
was a real kick in the teeth to many of us who were giving 110%
all the way.
I realize I could have lost my job, had I been employed elsewhere,
and for that I'm grateful. Eventhough, I wish I were back at FXO.
If FXO does gear back up again, Would Management REALLY expect the
origional Franklin Alumni to migrate back? How many years would
it stay afloat until another consolidation?
