311.0. "<<< HEALTH CLUB BENNIES?? >>>" by NUTMEG::RYAN () Thu May 07 1987 10:15

    Has anything ever been done by Digital or it's employees to facilitate
    some type of health club benifits package? Either a group discounted
    membership plan or on-site facilities? If not how can this be initiated?

    Thnx for any input

    Jim (mko)

    SPO had a program of in-house aerobics for a while. Try
    your plant nurse for starters.

    There are a few health clubs that I know that give discounts
    to DEC employees. My advice is to check your local health
    club. I know Orchard Hills in Lanacaster has a $50 discount
    on their initiation fee. Also a family plan.

311.3Do you have corporate rates??ATRISK::TANCILLIn my mind, still need a place to goThu May 07 1987 13:027

    Ditto on reply 2. Most health clubs offer "corporate memberships".
    These memberships are usually at a nice discount to regular retail
    memberships. Call your local club(s) and ask them.

Can't remember the exact figure, but the Shrewsbury Health and Fitness
Club does give discounts to DEC employees...

    Longfellow Tennis/Fitness Club in Sudbury, MA and the
    NaticK Sports Club give a "Corporate Discount".

    ZKO has a Wellness Center with a small weight machine room and
    exercise bikes/rowing machines. MRO has an aroebics program.
    (I heard that Littleton had one too.) Try your PSA, maybe your
    sight either has has something or might get it soon if enough people
    ask for it...
311.7Where in ZK?TSG::HATCHERThu May 21 1987 17:563
    where in ZK is this Wellness Center? Do they have showers and a
    locker room?

    The Wellness Center (hate the name, love the concept - wish they
    did it at MK) is on the bottom floor of ZK1, on the end nearest
    ZK3. It has men's and women's showers and lockers, assorted weight
    machines, bicycles, and rowing machines.

    For more info, check out the conference UCOUNT::ZKO_WELLNESS_PROGRAM.

I believe Holiday Health (right down the road from MK on the old
Route 3) has a discount for corporate members. I know that most
of the people I see when I work out there are DEC employees.
311.10How about those of us in the hinterlands??THE780::FARLEESo many NOTES, so little time...Tue May 26 1987 15:058
    Sounds good... but... I'm about 3000 miles from MK...
    Does anyone know about any health club-type benefits
    for those of us in the field? (I work out of WRO in
    Santa Clara, Calif.) Or is this a "see your local manager"
    issue?

    Thanks,
          Kevin

There is also an exercise room at SHR (Shrewsbury). I just glanced
at it but it appears to be well equipped.
311.12Half way between MKO and WRONCVAX1::BLACKTue May 26 1987 17:569
    Here in Minneapolis, we have had a couple of discount agreements
    with local health-club chains
    ... the details were worked out by a couple of local employees
    who felt that it would benefit both themselves and any of the
    rest of us who wanted to take it up.
    DEC pays nothing - there is a discount based on number of
    participants.

311.13Santa Clara Health club discountOPHION::GRINGORTENTue May 26 1987 21:1112
    regarding .11?? the note from Santa Clara:

    When I got to CA 3 years ago, a group of us got a deal with 24 hour
    Nautilus. The way it works is as follows:

    Walk into the 24HN main office in Santa Clara (!) on Space Park
    Rd. Tell them you're with DIGITAL. They'll tell you that Digital
    isn't big enough (?) to have a corporate membership with them, but
    they'll be glad to sign you up under somebody elses. No Joke.

    This MUST be done at the main office -- not at one of the gyms!!!
    No guarantees it still works that way.
311.14AIMHI::KRISTYHave you hugged a woobie today?Tue May 26 1987 21:346
    There was supposed to be a "Wellness Center" constructed at MKO
    back in January, but it was put on hold pending Corporate Standardization
    to have Wellness Centers at possibly all Digital sites. The space
    at MKO has already been allocated. For those interested in the
    Wellness Center at MKO, contact the Personnel Department... they
    will be able to give you more details on what's currently happening.
