Hi
in Basingstoke, whilst I worked there, a woman was given 3 months
"maternity leave" whilst she adopted and got to know her new baby.
Similarly her husband took time off from his job,, although only
for a couple of weeks.
Hope this helps, good luck

305.2 | Hope this helps | MAY20::MINOW | I need a vacation | Wed Apr 29 1987 11:39 | 12 |
| In Sweden, adoptive parents get the same paternity leave as "birth
parents". This consists of one year with pay which may be shared
between the father and mother as they choose. The pay comes from
the national health (not directly from the employer). There is
also a guarantee of a comparable job when returning to work from
parental leave.
Oh, yes, the legal minimum vacation is five (or is it six?) weeks per
year.
Martin.

| Two women here in Parker Street both recently got PAID leave when
adopting -- I believe that the adoption agreement must state a
requirement for something like "acquaintance time" for DEC to pay
for the leave.

| My 1991 Benefits Book has an adoption benefit. VTX BENEFITS_US doesn't.
When did this benefit disappear? Was it publicized?

305.5 | Still in the P&P as a benefit | RAGMOP::FARINA | | Mon Nov 07 1994 17:05 | 12 |
| It's in the orangebook (VTX ORANGEBOOK) under benefits. The note in
BENEFITS_US says that the 1991 benefits book applies with changes noted
in VTX. That leads me to believe that if it's in the 1991 book but not
mentioned on VTX, it still applies. Note that there were changes made
to the adoption benefit in January of this year. Since I don't recall
the policy in detail, I don't know if they cut things or added things.
Of course, the orangebook entry points the use to BENEFITS_US for
details!

| Don't panic. The adoption benefit is still in place (as of September '94)
Look in VTX ORANGEBOOK BENEFITS ADOPTION
The benefit is currently set for Digital to reimburse for
the first $3,000 of adoption related espenses. This benefit
is taxed at your normal rate.
Write me off-line if you want more details.

| There is another nice VTX utility called PI_US (for US only). It contains,
among other things, the complete benefits book which tells you what happens in
every situation.

| Gerald... details of the adoption benefit are on VTX in BENEFITS_US.
The adoption benefit it at the very end of Chapter 3, which covers
Digital medical benefits. Why there? Because John Hancock processes
the payments, and you submit your expenses (believe it or not) on a
medical claim form!

| Thanks. For some reason, when I do "Index - Search by Subject", adoption
doesn't show up. I can't seem to be able to get CBR to work either.
