re .4: NEXUS::MORGAN
It would appear from the attached that (your) concerns have
not gone unheeded... I suggest a cooling off period during which
the moderators are given time to implement the changes they have
outlined. At that point, a discussion of whether the changes are
far-reaching enough would be appropriate, but not now.

I have write locked this conference temporarily, so that Paul and I as
co-moderators can get together about what to do with this conference.
Also to allow a cooling down period for Paul & Myself and other involed
in our resent problem. Hopefully any misunderstanding can be cleared
up quickly, (hopefully in about a week or so).

Note 1.9 Welcome 9 of 9

-< update on the situation >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In view of the resent occurrences, we (the moderators) are making
preparations for the possibility of making this conference read-only.
Please note that we will NOT be taking this action at this time. We
simply wish to be ready to do so, in case we deem it necessary.
With this in mind, we ask that those of you who are in a read-only
access mode in this file to request to be added to the membership.
Anyone who has ever written to this conference has already been added
as a member.
On Monday, this conference will be write enabled again, and opened to
the public. Any notes that the moderators deem inappropriate will be
set hidden, followed by discussion with the note's author, after which
it will be determined to either set the note readable or deleted.
In cases where anyone is unwilling to obey these private warnings, they
will face their notes being deleted without warning.
Beginning Monday, this conference will be moderated with a more
watchful eye.
Neither Paul nor I wish to make this conference members only. That is
strictly a last resort measure at this time. If we make this
conference "members only", any one can become a member, no membership
request will be rejected. In such a case, the only way that a
membership will be able to be lost will be if similar incidents (as
have transpired here in this file recently) should be repeated in the
new conference format.
Doing all for His Glory
Rob and Paul
P.S. Just to repeat: If you have ever written to this conference, you
are already a member. Any others are asked to send your membership
requests to MED::MIREIDER. If you are not sure that you are a member,
any time you are in this conference, at the prompt, type
SHOW MEMBER your user name <CR>
or just
SHOW MEMBER <CR>
to see a complete listing of all member names.

| Disregarding personal opinion of religions and views expressed
about same - it is a serious breach of noting etiquette to extract
messages from one conference and post them to another without first
getting permission from the notes authors. Furthermore, it is even
worse that you do so to support your own personal bias against
certain notes in the conference.
I agree with Marge - if you don't like what is written in a conference,
take it up with the authors and then the moderators. Do not use
the rest of us as your kangaroo court. If you persist in doing
so, you raise the serious threat of having all employee interest
conferences shut down. Wanting certain conferences to be
members-only, presumeably only for members who match your particular
viewpoint, will not be tolerated by the corporation - that much
has already been made clear to us.

| The style and examples included in this note are not proper noting
etiquette. As a result, I have hidden the inappropriate notes and
set this topic to /NOWRITE.
If you want to discuss the subject of appropriate use of Digital's
information resources, fine. But please do not quote others without
their permission.
If you want to discuss exactly what constitutes reasonable quoting,
then I suggest you take that up in HUMAN::ETIQUETTE.
-Sincerely, HUMAN::DIGITAL owner
