Ran across the following list of most admired and least admired
companies in EE Times this week. They polled 1,988 subscribers
with a return rate of 46.5% The question was: "Of the companies you
know, which is the one you most admire, and least admire?"
We show up at number 4 with 85 respondents thinking that they admired DEC
more than anyone else.

Re .0:
I'd take any list of the "10 Most" with a grain of salt.
Mostly you get the ten most widely known. Think of what happens
when the fluffier magazines come out with the "10 Best Dressed"
and the "10 Worst Dressed": Brooke Shields and Liz Taylor are
on both lists. This is because lesser-known people (smaller
firms) won't show up on enough lists to be visible when the
answers are compiled.
There is also the slight matter that "admire" is a poorly-
defined word: are we talking about a company's performance as
seen by a customer, a competitor, a stockholder, an employee,
or what?
I'd be more interested in the answers to a better-phrased
question.

isn't it interesting that the same company occupies # 1 in both
the Most-admired and Least-admired lists?

re: -.1 Not so strange that the company that affects the MOST people
also shafts more people than other companies!
If you take a weighted scale of 10:1 for best and -10:-1 for worst
then the score is DEC=7, IBM=0 !!!
Heh, heh!
