79.0. "internal F/T sw to customers" by PRSIS3::DTL () Thu Jan 23 1986 02:16

[flame on]

Today a note in the Rdb notesfile said that the Rdb kit has been removed
from the net because version 2.0 has been given to a customer without
authorization (it is not yet in the SDC). Yesterday this issue of
giving internal use only kits to customers has been raised elsewhere,
but this file was not reachable.

Listen to me carefully:

If people from DEC, not enough intelligent to understand that this will
suppress all funded products software kits availability through the net,
go on giving these kits to customers, this will start a new time for us,
and not a good time, believe me; whatever the reason is. "My manager
forced me to sent Rdb to this one or that DECUS one". NO!

The way is well known and often used. When there is an external field test
to be done, it is an external field test, and documents are made, signed,
etc... to officialize this. I don't know why the Rdb product manager/project
leader/whoelse decided to do so, but there is certainly a good reason.

I hope someone is tracking down who the customer(s) obtained the software
in question from.

If somebody did this on their own authority, they should be fired.
