I've read and re-read most of these notes and wanted to take a note or so
to regroup, to wonder again why this file should exist.

Perhaps, as a couple of folks have suggested, this is a bit too public a forum
for some of the matters being discussed. Other stuff, such a work policies and
procedures, how those things differ from country to country (from cost center to
cost center) have been interesting and enlightening.

Paul raised the point of ``old DECies'' and their mythology. There's a culture
associated with working for Digital. Apparently that culture hasn't spread
to all places. Or, it could be that, when tougher times come, managers get
scared and try to tighten up on activities that don't show directly on the
bottom line. Whatever the causes, we down in the trenches are starting to
hear messages about cost-cutting and increased efficiency. This means to
me learning how to work better. I've got some ideas on how I can work better
and the types of things that my group can do to work better. What confuses
me is how and where to express those ideas. Again, might those ideas be too
personal for this forum, or just so esoteric as to be of no interest to anyone
but the members of my group.

I dunno. I like this file and look forward to its success. Maybe some discussion
on why this file should continue would be helpful.

the fact that this file teaches a few *real* policies within our company
is the only aim I had in creating it.

And more:

There is only one reason, for this file not to exist. It is the reason, that
the sort of problems, discussed in this file shouldn't exist.

But since we are all together in a comapny where a problem has to be discussed,
when there is one, this file is one of the places to do so, before going
to your manager.
