| CLASS is an expert system written at the State University of New York for a
large New York bank. It was written in GEN-X, the shell that VAX Decision
Expert is based on. It helps make commercial lending decisions.
Mark Turner worked on a system for Barclays that helped spot fraud in cases
where information from one side of the bank isn't supposed to be passed to
another side. Such as from the folks who finance corporate takeovers to the
folks who do personal investment consulting. When I've heard this system
being discussed in front of customers, Barclays was referred to as "a large
bank in Britain".
Ruedi Burkhard worked on an expert system for Union Bank of Switzerland, but
I can't remember what it was about. Ruedi is on his way to Galway today.
You might try sending him mail, or perhaps Caroline could help.
Also, there are all the insurance company applications, which the bank would
be interested in, as they are both into each others businesses these days.
At Aetna there was the underwriting assistant and the contract configuration
system.
Finally, there's a page in the Digital Solutions Reference Book for Expert
Systems that mentions a few financial applications, although not in much
detail. For example, it mentions fraud detection, loan analysis, loan
portfolio design, insurance application screening, and a few more. If you
don't have this document, I could fax you the appropriate page if you wish.
