Subject: DECtree U2.3 Field Test Release

Tool Description
----------------
DECtree is a tool that allows you to create, modify, build, and execute
decision-tree based applications via a graphical user interface. With
DECtree you can capture, maintain, and distribute key expertise throughout
your enterprise.

DECtree makes all of this easy for nonprogrammers by translating decision
trees into C programs and by building these C programs into applications
(.EXE files). DECtree is also powerful enough for advanced programmers to
build complex, real-world applications.

Both the DECtree development environment and the DECtree run-time environment
run on all three of Digital's workstation platforms (VAX/VMS, VAX/Ultrix, and
MIPS/Ultrix). The DECtree run-time environment also runs on character cell
terminals.

Please post your questions and problem reports in the AIAG::DECtree VAXnotes
conference. If you have any non-technical questions or issues, please feel
free to contact the Product Manager at dtn 291-8104 or AIAG::Lutz.

Documentation
-------------

DECtree includes both on-line help and a User's Guide. The DECtree User's
Guide is included in the kit in both PostScript and BookReader formats.
These are also available directly at:

	AIAG::DECTREE$:[KIT]DECTREE_USERS_GUIDE_V022.PS
	AIAG::DECTREE$:[KIT]DECTREE_USERS_GUIDE_V022.DECW$BOOK

Note that this documentation has *not* been updated for the field test U2.3.
Please refer to the Release Notes for documentation of DECtree U2.3 features.

Release Notes
-------------

The release notes are included in the installation kit. They are also available
in PostScript and text format at:

	AIAG::DECTREE$:[KIT]DECTREE023_RELEASE_NOTES.PS
	AIAG::DECTREE$:[KIT]DECTREE023_RELEASE_NOTES.TXT

	* And(&) and Not(!) operators on arcs

	* Support for new number types for input nodes --
		o  Binary
		o  Octal
		o  Hexadecimal

	*  Searching among nodes

	* Passing variables by values to trees

	*  Assertion files

Installation Kits
-----------------
The VAX/VMS VMSinstal kit is located at:

	AIAG::DECTREE$:[KIT]DECTREE023.A

For further information, you can look at the file:

	AIAG::DECTREE$:[KIT]KIT_CONT.TXT

This shows the DECtree files that are included in the kits and their sizes.
Actual installation requires twice the amount of disk space for the kit.

VAX/VMS Installation
---------------------
VAX/VMS installation should be executed from the SYSTEM account (by the
System Manager).

	$ SPOOL COPY AIAG::DECTREE$:[KIT]DECTREE023.A []
	$! Wait for the SPOOL to send a message that it has completed
	$ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL DECTREE

DECtree VAX/VMS Kit Size: 13,800 blocks
Disk usage during installation: 28,000 blocks
Permanent disk usage:			13,800 blocks

Running DECtree
---------------

To run DECtree from VMS:

    $ dectree

After you have installed DECtree
--------------------------------
Please send a message to AIAG::DECTREE informing us that you are using DECtree.
We're interested in knowing --

	o Hardware that you are using

	o What you are using DECtree for

	o How many people are using your DECtree applications

This information will help us plan better for DECtree's future.

If you have any questions, comments, issues, and especially bugs, please let us
know. I can be reached at AIAG::Lutz, and the DECtree notesfile is available
at AIAG::DECtree. Your comments and feedback are greatly appreciated by the
DECtree team. Thanks for working with us!
