Ladies and Gentlemen of the European AI Competency Circle, It is time for us to start planning for the next AI Forum. We noticed that the Forum would normally fall in near proximity to the Avignon'91 show during the last week of May. It is also our hope to have the various countries from around Europe represented in our Exhibition booth at the show. This leaves us with a couple of questions (problems?). o if the show and the Forum were a month or so apart, would your country be able to be represented at both? o if not, which would you prefer to attend - Avignon or a forum in Valbonne? o how would you feel about combining the two; i.e., attend the technical sessions and exhibition and share booth duty with other competency circle members? We would like to raise Digital's participation at Avignon to a full European event. However, at the same time, we want to meet the needs and expectation of you, the AI Competency Circle community. Your "quick" feedback would be appreciated. We would like to make a final decision early next week so that we can set the wheels in motion. Please let your desires be known here, or directly to George (yippee::) Mcgregor @VBO or Pat (yippee::) Roach @VBO Cheers!

IMHO we should keep the 2 events (Avignon and AI-Forum) unrelated. The only thing I would suggest is planning the AI-Forum just before or after Avignon. This saves those of us who want to attend both events, a ticket. Hans de Hartog | |||||

Now that Gulf War hostilities have ended, and travel restrictions may be somewhat eased, I would like to rapidly plan the next competency circle meeting. Given a summer timeframe (June?), what would you like to see as topics? The feedback from the last meeting suggests that we should try to cover a small number of topics in some depth, rather than cover many topics. Here is my suggested agenda for 4 days; Trainings in the following: - a C-based Shell (e.g. KBMS) - a constraint-based reasoning language (e.g Prolog III) - a KB system methodology (e.g KADS) Discussions of - marketing issues/competitive update - update of the AI&DPM task-force What do you urgently need to know about?! -- I vote for some detail in the (some) presentations. Maybe not an in depth training, but MORE than the standard presentation. Besides the marketing/eis discussions, I think we need to get something practical, in terms of immediate usefullness, out of the seminars. This helps justifying the travel. Therefor I vote for KBMS/PROLOG/G2/KADS/LASER/... indepths & handsons. What about Vax Decision Expert version 2.0 and it's Unix version ... A long expected up-date/grade would be welcome. -- About the Avignon event, I agree with Hans in .1. These days we have to justify every travel with business, and for the Avignon- participation I can not (yet) find any justification (help is welcome) -- Some CC's ago, we've discussed the a travelling CC-meeting. Every country would host a meeting. This would give some more people the opportunity to participate. It could be used as publicity for the technology, or it could give us (cc-members) the opportunity to have a look at Digitals own applications (Ayr, Galway, Edinburg, ...). What's the CC's opinion on this? btw. we're opening an office in Prague, what about that for the next meeting :-} -- Luc |
