			First Announcement and Call for Papers

	      	    European Conference on Artificial Intelligence
		        in Petroleum Exploration and Production

		    October 16-18, 1991 - Rueil Malmaison, France

This conference will bring together researchers, users, and potential users of 
AI technology (knowledge-based or expert systems, neural networks, etc.)in the 
upstream part of the petroleum industry. The conference will complement the 
"CAIPEP" conference which has taken place every year since 1988 at Texas A&M 
University (College Station, TX). Contributions are also welcome in downstream 
activities. We invite you to submit papers to the conference. 

PUBLICATION OF THE CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS
The Proceedings of the conference will be published. The authors of the papers 
accepted must have their final manuscript ready for July 15, 1991. 

DATES AND DEADLINES
Abstract submission deadline: March 15, 1991
Notification of abstract acceptance: May 30, 1991
Final manuscript submission deadline: July 15, 1991

The conference is being organized by the Institut Francais du Petrol and is 
supported by the Petroleum Science and Technology Institute (Edinburgh, UK) and 
by Total Exploration & Production. We encourage your company to sponsor the 
conference, too, by sending a cheque payable to IFP/EuroCaipep Committee at the 
above address. Sponsors will be listed in all conference documents.
