Ladies and Gentlemen,
    
    Attached is an invitation to provide input to the theme of AAAI '91.
    Please feel free to contribute to this request. However, on a more
    local note, we are in the process of planning Digital's presence at
    Avignon '91 and the development of a theme is on the agenda. The
    conference theme for Avignon '91 is "Expert System's and Their
    Applications".
    
    Any and all suggestions are and will be appreciated.

                       IDEAS FOR AAAI 91 THEMES NEEDED


The major annual marketing event for the AITC, AAAI91, will be held in Anaheim, 
CA 14-19 July 1991.  This year, it is being held in conjunction with 
Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence at the Anaheim Convention
Center.

As most of you will recall, AAAI90 in Boston was a complete success for
Digital, exposing us to more opportunities than ever before. One of
the main reasons for this success was the input and assistance of so many
people in the AITC.  In order to make AAAI91 as successful, we will need to
draw upon the ideas of everyone, starting with the Theme for AAAI91.

The Theme of AAAI90 was "Knowledge-Based Solutions For the 90's", which was
paralleled by our DECworld theme, "Knowledge-Based Solutions At Work".  This 
year, in addition to knowledge-based solutions we have emerging technologies to 
offer such as imaging and modelling.  There are also new and innovative programs 
being developed around consulting services, training and fellowship.  

Our theme for AAAI91 needs to address our leadership and innovation and convey 
the new horizon before us, both at Digital and the AITC.  For this reason, we 
would like everyone in the AITC to give some thought to what our theme should be 
for AAAI91.

Please send your recommendations to Cynthia Young at LMOADM::Young.  Cynthia
will gather and categorize all of the ideas, then the AAAI91 Committee will
recommend the most appropriate for our theme to the AITC staff.  The contributor 
of this year's theme will be recognized at a future quarterly meeting.
