ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SEMINAR
"INTEGRATION OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES"
March 26th and 27th, 1991
Target Audience
The "target audience" for this seminar are those individuals who have
an advisory, influential, and or decision-making role in the application
of new technologies in business. The ideal candidate is a business manager
who is coming up against business problems which seem to be unsolvable
using just conventional techniques.
Description
The objective of this seminar is to help you identify and position the
potential benefits of emerging AI technologies in your business, and to
show where these technologies can be used to gain a competitive edge.
The overall theme of the seminar will be that of integration; each of
these technologies forms a part of the overall picture, often as a
component of a larger information system. Therefore it is not only
important to understand the applicability of individual technologies, but
how to solve a business problem by combining advanced technologies with
more "conventional" techniques.
Digital will share with you the latest service and product offerings in the
field of "Integration of Emerging Technologies"
This seminar will be "application-driven", in the sense that APPLICATION
AREAS will be introduced as topics. The underlying EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
which are essential to the delivery of a solution will be clearly shown
for each application area.
Application Areas to be discussed will include:
- Scheduling Applications
- Intelligent Information Management
- Process Control and Automation
- Intelligent Network Management
- Intelligent Tutoring Systems
- Financial Applications
- Enterprise Modelling
Technologies discussed will include:
- Real-Time Expert Systems
- Symbolic Modelling
- Constraint Based Reasoning
- Neural Nets and Machine Learning
- Hyper-Media

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SEMINAR
"INTEGRATION OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES"
March 26th and 27th, 1991
Location : Customer Center in Sophia Antipolis - Valbonne
Enrollment Process
If you have a Customer Event Coordinator in your country, please ensure they
are involved in the process.
Enrolment is by invitation only, and is subject to qualification. If you
have a customer who is interested in attending the Seminar, please complete
the attached Questionnaire and return it to Alison Blyth @VBO via your
country coordinator, NO LATER THAN January 25th, 1991, when the first part
of the qualifying will be done; registration packages will be sent out
directly after qualification.
If the number of qualified requests is sufficient to fill the available
slots, any further qualified nominations will be put on the waiting list.
Qualification is given ONLY for the customer shown on your Questionnaire; in
the case of cancellation the slot will be given to a qualified customer on
the waiting list. Any proposed substitution must be re-qualified by us
before being accepted.
NOTES:
1. The Seminar language is English, so please be sure that your
customer has a sufficient level in English.
2. There is a limit of 55 places available, for which customers
have first priority; the number of Digital escorts, therefore,
is limited to one for every two customers, on average. If the
number of escorts from any country exceeds this level, we will
refer the matter to the country, since we have no basis for
any decision on escort selection.
3. The Seminar, documentation, breaks, lunches, and local
transportation to and from the ECC-E, are free of charge to
the customer, but all other travel and accommodation costs are
at the customer's expense. We will make hotel reservations and
local transportation arrangements for all participants.
4. The "PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT", on the previous page of this
package, is specifically designed to be given to the customer,
as a summary of the seminar's content and objectives. However
the rest of the Announcement and the Questionnaire are for
Digital internal use only, and should NOT be given to the
customer.
5. Participants should plan to arrive at the hotel on the evening
of Monday 25th of March, ready to start the Seminar at 09.00
on Tuesday the 26th. The Seminar will end at about 16:00 on
Wednesday the 27th of March.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SEMINAR
"INTEGRATION OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES"
March 26th and 27th, 1991
HOST: George McGregor - AI Technology Center
Agenda Outline
1) Introduction
---------------
2) Scheduling Applications
--------------------------
Problems such as crew scheduling, job-shop scheduling, and other
forms of resource scheduling occur in almost all businesses.
These problems can be tackled by a hybrid approach, combining AI
techniques with user-interface and database technology.
3) Intelligent Information Management
-------------------------------------
The problem of maintaining and allowing easy access to vast amounts
of multi-media data is one being faced today by many enterprises.
Tackling this problem needs application of a number of technologies
including imaging, machine learning (e.g. neural nets), and even
natural language processing.
4) Process Control
------------------
Expert Systems are being used more and more to "close the loop" and
create intelligent control systems. There are specific problems
related to the real-time aspect of this task which need to be
considered.
5) Intelligent Network Management
---------------------------------
The use of expert systems in the field of network management will be
discussed. Again real-time aspects are important, as well as the
use of architectures such as EMA.
6) Enterprise Modelling
-----------------------
AI techniques can contribute to the management of the complexity of
inter-function, inter-organisational processes, by allowing business
models to be simulated before implementation.
7) Financial Applications
-------------------------
Businesses are facing more and more complexity in their financial
operations. Expert system technology can help support and automate
financial processes.
8) Digitals Emerging Technologies Services
------------------------------------------
Digitals strategies, services, and products in the
Emerging Technologies space.
