234.0. "Medical references ?" by EVOAI1::RIPOLL (Stephane RIPOLL, PARIS) Tue Oct 02 1990 20:08

Does anybody know about DIGITAL references in medicine and/or pharmacy. I
am about to meet people from CHR (Centre Hospitalier Rgional) in Lille,
who want to start a project about Toxicology Control.

Project goals are to provide the following functionnality :

             	 - data collection, agregation & validation about
                     toxic effects on populations,

             	 - risk identification from the collected data, and
                     knowledge of chemical products in use by industry
                     or people (household...),

             	 - alert management : plan operations, and resource
                     allocation (hosptital rooms, rescue teams, ...),
                     procedures (information of authorities,...)

My objectives are :

             	 - to be able to present DIGITAL's know-how (if any)
                     in general in medical applications of A.I.,

             	 - to get pointers on experiences inside DIGITAL about
                     similar experiences as the project described above,
                     and the techniques in use.

Thanks in advance for any ideas,

    Stephane,

    You may want to contact Dr. Peter Politakis @DLB (SELECT::). Before
    coming to Digital, Peter won an international award on the application
    of AI to medical problems. I would bet that he still keeps up on
    progress in that area.

    Two medical packages/demos:

        . MOS
    		. from EERP
    		. simulates/models cardiovascular, pulmonary systems
    		. neural-net based?
    	    	. kit: EUROPE::USER2:[SCHERRER.MOSAIC]MOS_VMS.BCK (VMS)
    			                          or  MOS_5000.TAR (ULTRIX)
    		  (requires about 14K blocks)

        . DIDDLY
    		. medical "data fusion" application
    		. shown at DECWorld
    		. developed by Dave Wecker's group in Colorado
    		  (CHILD::WECKER)
    		. restricted Notes conference; send mail to SHODHA::DIDDLY
    		  and mention your ELF name, mail address, and
    		  node/username	from which you'll access the Notes.

    I'm not sure that either of these two are exactly what you want, but
    I hope they'll be useful anyway.
