TARGET AUDIENCE

This is a Pilot Offering of the Training Program that will become the 
foundation of the European AI Fellowship Program.

Manufacturing, Engineering.
This course is also suitable for EIS specialists.

The Program is aimed at individuals who will be responsible for building and 
implementing Expert Systems. Participants in the entire one month curriculum 
should have a strong Programming background. 

The Introductory week of the program is appropriate for any employee interested 
in a broad overview of AI and Expert Systems.


PREREQUISITES 

Two years experience in Software Engineering. User level expertise with VMS. 
Previous experience or reading in AI is helpful but not required.
Strong interpersonal skills.


COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students who complete this program will be able to : 
        * Describe fundamental concepts of AI and Knowledge Based Systems
        * Describe potential impacts of implementing Knowledge Based
          Systems in a Business Organization.
        * Describe current applications of Knowledge Based Technology in           
various fields.
        * Employ informed techniques for eliciting knowledge from experts.
        * Design a small Prototype system and build the system using OPS 5           
or EPITOOL.   
  

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Knowledge Engineering is a multidimensional discipline requiring skills
in technical as well as organizational areas. The Program addresses those
areas by providing the following courses :

  *  Introduction to AI and Knowledge Based Systems
  *  Knowledge Representation
  *  Introduction to Knowledge Based System Tools
  *  OPS 5 or EPITOOL (Student Chooses One)
  *  Knowledge Acquisition
  *  Designing Knowledge Based Systems
  *  Prototyping in OPS 5 or EPITOOL


The Introductory Course (one week) may be selected as a stand-alone course.

Other courses within the Program are also available individually .
