172.0. "AI product news" by BONNET::COUTIER () Mon Jan 22 1990 15:55
As promised at the last AI FORUM in Valbonne, I am posting the latest
product news, for your review and comments:
1. VAX OPS5: no major news, the proposal for an OPS-like product
(TIN/METAL) is still up in the air.
2. VAX LISP/DEC LISP: The DDS agreement with Lucid for their RISC
version of Common Lisp has been signed and is in the process of
being implemented. It should be announced in Europe in february
and will ship in late Q3. Support will be provided by local Lucid
distributors and by Lucid in California.
The plan is to have Digital develop a DEC LISP, available on all
platforms and based on Lucid's kernel. This product would be available
in early 1991, sold and supported by Digital, and - depending on
the funding allocated - would include some DEC-specific features,
such as the ephemeral garbage collector and the System Build Ultility.
3. VAX DECISION EXPERT: Version 2.0 is now forecasted for early
1991.
4. EPITOOL: In Europe, we will wait until Q4 when a "Lispless version"
of Epitool is available, to implement the DDS agreement. If you
have some short term difficulties with that decision, please call
me and we will have a short-term fix (buy the product from Epitec
directly or go through the US).
