167.4There is PAM and PAMS and...PAM, maybe.YIPPEE::TARANTOLAFaster than VMS!Fri Jan 19 1990 11:3040
I think there is the need to clarify this entry as it becomes very confusing and
misleading.

Let's do it with a smile.

.0 Introduces the topic as PAMS or PAM without any definition (at this point on
   time everybody has his/her own espansion of what the acronym means...)

.1 Some clarificarions arrive, and everybody correct his/her espansion. I
   actually deleted mine but I remained without espansion as no espansion is
   given in this replay. In any case I undesrtood this version of PAMS is a
   "messaging tool developed by SWS", a piece of software, developed in
   Meriden, Connecticut...

.2 Reading this, my hard-wired neurons did panic as the PAM described here is
   a Programmable Active Memory, made of chips (yes, the black boxes that we
   call also THE HARDWARE). No link at all with .1.

.3 Back to version .1 of PAM, and I am glad Peter (Ochsner) did not read the
   PRL FY91 LRP...

To clarify, it appears there are three (to the best of my knowledge) espansions
for PAM(S):

1) PAM (.0, .2) - Programmable Active Memory

2) PAMS (.1, .3) - Process Activation and Messaging System
  (read the referenced replies to know more)

3) PAM - Parallel Associative Memory - a QBUS option board and Run Time Library
   designed for applications where pattern matching (recognition) with inexact
   data is desired.
   (mail me for knowing more)

If anybody knew other espansion of PAM, please he/she would be so kind to reply
to this topic...

Amusingly yours,

	-Carlo
