163.1BRObot, a AI demo for decvilleKETJE::VANDEVYVERLuc Van de Vyver 856-7577Fri Jan 19 1990 12:5070
** NAME OF DEMO:-
	BRObot : A robotics/graphics/expert-system demo from @BRO (Brussels)

** SHORT DESCRIPTION OF DEMO:-

BRObot demo consists of 3 parts :

	1) The physical robot arm (6 movements), about 50 cm high,
and the callable routines, which acts as interface between the robot
   	hardware and the application program.

	2) The PHIGS-robot. This is the exact image of the physical robot, executing
the same movements on screen as the physical robot does in reality.
This screen-robot is developed in PHIGS, complete with light-sources and
   	shading (fire-fox only).

	3) An application using the robot (and it's screen image).
Currently we plan a few applications :
		a) manual :move the robot using sliders on the screen (mouse driven)
		b) an expert-system to drive the robot movements
           	: EPIPORT (written in EPITOOL)
		  a sheduling system for airports
the robot will move the airplanes and services on a
		  scaled airport

** THE INDUSTRY SEGMENT YOU FEEL IT WOULD BE MOST APPROPRIATE FOR:-

	- Manufacturing - Auto
	- Service (expert system part)

** THE EARLIEST TIME YOU CAN HAVE THE DEMO READY

	- This demo is a 'midnight project'. The first part (see 3.a) can be
	  ready april/may.
The second (Epiport) part is expected to be ready in June.

Very much depends of the support (see further). The sooner we get the
go, the sooner we can deliver ...

** WHAT SUPPORT YOU WILL NEED

	- The demo of EPIPORT, direct from EPITEC if possible, since they
have created a nice user-interface for this demo

	- An official request to demo this on DECVILLE, so we can get
a 'go' from our manager (Matt Hulst @BRO).

** WHAT SOFTWARE TOOLS ARE USED
	VMS 5.3
	DECWINDOWS v2
	PHIGS v2.1
	EPITOOL v4

** HARDWARE PLATFORM REQUIRED.
	Vaxstation 3520 or 3540, 24 planes (firefox)
	Vaxstation 3100 (16MB) for epitool
	RS232 port
Robot (from Brussels ACT demo center)

    I would suggest 3 demos.

    1.Insurance market:
IPW (CLUE,CLUE+) Insurance Professional Workstation: Complete
architecture to support commercial lines property/liability
underwriting. It's an integration of different technologies including
    Expert System for risk assesment.
We will demonstrate it during ASSUREXPO in Paris next february.
IPW is currently in field test in field offices.
    High potential weapon.
We plan to start a project with one of our customers in France.
    IPW demonstrates:
-our capability to provide advanced solutions in the finance
market,to increase quality work,to speed up underwriting cycle
-our capability to integrate AI technology, to deliver high added
         value applications

    Project funded by Finance Marketing:
    	-US John MIKLE SIMVAX::MIKLE
    	-EU Geoffrey BARNARD @HHL

    2.Banking market:
RAMSES :Expert System for the automatic routing of banking messages.
This system has been developped for CNCA (Caisse Nationale du Crdit
Agricole) by ODDISS'YA a Digital partner in France (experts in applying
OPS5 technology). This system is operational and runs on VAX 3800.
Currently RAMSES operates on SWIFT and SAGITAIRE networks with high
increase in automating the routing performances (from 25% to over 90%
for SWIFT, from 0% to 95% for SAGITAIRE).
One interesting point is that RAMSES can be viewed as a generic
application you can apply to solve routing problems on networks by
using syntax, semantic, pragmatic analysis, like telex, EDI, Airline
    Networks .....
    RAMSES is written in VAXOPS5.
    Real world application!

Clearance needed with both CNCA and ODDYSS'IA.

    3.Airline Transportation market:

Crew Rotation System developped by Air France with our partner SYSECA.
This application has been the door opener to a blue account for
    Digital.

Clearance needed from both AF and SYSECA.
