Subject: locations of kits...
The following will provide information for installing kits, and demo software
to support the following tools: G-KAPS, UDS, DICE.
Each of these tools should readily install on either VMS 5.1 or VMS 5.2. It
is assumed that the workstations will be running DECwindows software. In
addition to installing the kits, it is necessary to set up the demonstrations
which will use the installed software. To do that it is easiest to create a
subdirectory for each of the tools.
I assume that a user of the system will login under some username (assume it's
called GUEST), and that the top level directory will have the same
name (ie,[GUEST]). In that case, there should be three additional
subdirectories: [GUEST.GKAPS], [GUEST.UDS], and [GUEST.DICE].
It will be important that the user (GUEST) has access to these directories,
so it's best to create the subdirectories, and populate them from the user's
account (GUEST). In that way GUEST will be the owner of the directories and
the files in them.
Here's how to install the software, and also put the proper files into these
directories.
A user may require SYSGBL priviledge in order to run DICE.

G-KAPS: (Pat, if you wait until next week, the final version will be here. But
this field test version is pretty much complete. The documentation
also in this directory. It's a large postscript file. It will also
have a final update at the end of this week.)
The G-KAPS kit is located in the following directory:
SELECT::KIT$DISK:[KITS]
And here are the relevant files from this directory:
Directory KIT$DISK:[KITS]
GKAPS_FT010.A;1 80/81 11-OCT-1989 16:03:21.50
GKAPS_FT010.B;1 3296/3297 26-OCT-1989 02:53:44.01
GKAPS_FT010.C;1 1248/1248 18-OCT-1989 18:22:26.57
GKAPS_FT010.D;1 976/978 25-OCT-1989 03:24:32.39
GKAPS_FT010.RELEASE_NOTES;1
13/15 2-JUN-1989 15:51:14.64
Copy these to some place on the system, and
use VMSINSTAL to install GKAPS - or do it
over the network, if you choose.
***
Once G-KAPS has been successfully installed, you should copy additional
files to the special gkaps directory described above (ie, [GUEST.GKAPS}).
The files are in the following directory:
38815::DUA1:[kits]
You want to copy all the files in this directory. Here are the files that will
be copied:
$ dir 38815::DUA1:[kits]*.*
Directory 38815::DUA1:[KITS]
DELPHI.GKAPS$MODEL;1
79/81 18-AUG-1989 10:59:21.00
DISTIL-FEED-ZONE.GKAPS$MODEL;20
56/57 18-AUG-1989 16:54:02.00

THROAT.GKAPS$MODEL;5
20/21 18-AUG-1989 16:38:52.00
Total of 4 files, 168/174 blocks.
Finally copy all of these files to the user's top level
directory (ie, [GUEST]).

UDS:
The UDS kit is located in the following diretory:
ROONEY::UDS$KIT:
There is a single file in this directory:
Directory ROONEY::DUA0:[UDSKIT]
UDS040.A;5 5688/5688 12-OCT-1989 15:44:50.00
Total of 1 file, 5688/5688 blocks.
Copy the file, or do a network installation of UDS.
NOTE:: In order to install UDS, GKS must have previously
been installed on the system.
***
The files that go into the [GUEST.UDS] directory were included in the
installation kit. After the installation you may copy the entire contents
of UDS$EXAMPLES: to [GUEST.UDS].
Finally copy these to the top level directory as well.

DICE:
The DICE kit is located in the following directory:
JAMMIN::DICE$DISTRIBUTION:
The relevant file is:
Directory JAMMIN::DUA1:[DICE.DISTRIBUTION]
DICE012.A;4 3276/3276 5-SEP-1989 11:37:52.00
The documentation is also in this directory, a postscript file.
Install the DICE software.
The additional files can be found in the following directory:
JAMMIN::DUA1:[DICE_DEMO.STEREO]
From JAMMIN::DUA1:[DICE_DEMO.STEREO], copy all files to [GUEST.DICE].
$ dir JAMMIN::DUA1:[DICE_DEMO.STEREO]

The installations should be quite ordinary, and the additional files to be
copied or moved are not particularly large. Good Luck.
I can also get you a hardcopy of the documentation.
