Since field test is over and the product is available from SDC, no field test
kits or PAKs are available. Please contact Marcia Roland for information on
how to order it through SDC and to see if you qualify for a free license --
if you have to pay for it, remember that, you only have to pay about 1/7 of
what our customers are expected to pay for it!

I always thought that VAX Decision Expert is a DEC product (compared
to Nexpert Object which is just a DDS product).
So does DEC have to pay royalties, is it not really our product?
Are there plans to supply free licenses to European countries?
I want to sell this product without having to pay for my own license,
as it is with the rest of our products.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, it's named VAX Decision Expert.
So what have we to deal (at the country level) with
licences arrangments.
If we want to sell VAX Decision Expert we need an
unrestricted access to the product, in order to be able
to at least demonstrate it !
Waiting for good news.

You must order the product through the SDC. The internal license cost
is low.

Let's see, two weeks for the internal approvals, one week in the mail, another
to be processed, six weeks to get it out of SDC. That kills Q4. Nobody sets
up demos in July, August everybody has new accounts, ... Should there be a
Corporate memo stating the Decision Expert isn't ready for viewing until
Q2FY90 or should we handle it on a local level? Perhaps we should just
hold off for version 2? (Oops, will there be any internal "test" kits for
the V2 product?) Who in God's name negotiates these contracts?

100.1 | Quick fixes | BONNET::COUTIER | | Wed Apr 19 1989 16:28 | 27 |
| This is your good old AI marketing friend trying again to put out
fires ignited at Corporate level.
It is true that, for some reasons, we in Europe were not told by
anyone about this royalty situation with VAX Decision Expert. So,
once again, we are on a reactive mode!
After talking to Marcia Roland, I found out that:
1. the current contract with G.E. stipulates only 100 free internal
copies. The extra ones have to be purchased through "regular channels"
(i.e. SDC) at "the low cost" of $ 750 (this is how much royalty
we pay G.E.). Digital is trying to re-negociate that contract to
add more free copies, but nothing confirmed yet.
2. One had to ask for a free copy! So I did! I sent a request
for 28 copies for Europe with 28 names of people responsible for
the copies. Thomas and Henri are obviously in this list. I will
send a mail to all the people I quickly identify (I had to give
this list within a few hours!) to let them know. I tried to have
at least one copy per country (more in larger countries) and to
go to ACT's first.
This is only a quick fix, though. Hopefully the situation can only
improve, right!!!

100.2 | It's good having friends ... | MINNY::MANSER | They call me _tinker_ | Thu Apr 20 1989 10:14 | 7 |
| Many thanks to Pascal who once more had to rescue the situation
for Europe.
Now let's go to the details:
o When will the PAK's be available?
o When will the SDC be ready to distribute the Software and Docu?
