99.0. "Dataviews: When are you allowed to use it?" by BONNET::COUTIER () Mon Apr 17 1989 18:08
We are getting once in a while some questions regarding Dataviews,
the graphics package from V.I. Corp. People would like to know if
we have a formal arrangement with V.I. Corp and if they can continue
using the copy which they received almost 2 years ago at an AI Forum
in Valbonne.
We do not have a formal agreement with V.I. Corp. This is a company
which apparently works on an "ad hoc" basis and does not seem
interested in striking a formal deal with Digital. They like the
idea of us showing their tool as part of our demos, but they don't
want to see us use Dataviews to do "real" customer projects. We
also can use their tool to show some of Decworld'88 demos.
My recommendation is the following: If you have a copy which you
are still using, only use it in "general pre-sales" activity (demos,
quick prototype built-up). If you need to use Dataviews in longer
pre-sales activities (over a month of prototyping) or in post-sales
project consultancy, then you need to check with V.I. Corp (Carl
Kowalski - Tel. (44) 628 32 518) whether the free copy you received
is licenced for this type of activity.
