61.1Evaluation Report AvailableLARVAE::TURNERMark Turner * DTN 849-3429 * SPYDER::TURNERMon Jan 23 1989 18:2819
[from Arlette Gubert]

	The preliminary evaluation report on the different Prolog products
	is now available. You can copy it from:
		YIPPEE::AI$PUBLIC:[PROLOG]evaluation_report.ps
		YIPPEE::AI$PUBLIC:[PROLOG]evaluation_report.ln03

	The next stage of the evaluation consists now on porting a large
	internal application to the best products: IF/Prolog, Delphia Prolog
	and Prolog II+.

	The final report will be available by the end of february with a
	summary of the comparative evaluation and the recommendations.

	You are invited to send me any comments or to ask any further
	questions.

	Thank you for your help,
arlette.
61.2News?EIGER::BURKHARDYouth is wasted on the young.Wed Mar 22 1989 14:204
    Where do we go from here and when will we hear about the decision
    on DEC's Prolog stratgy?

    Any news? Pascal?
61.3Current situation with PrologBONNET::COUTIERWed Mar 22 1989 15:5423
    This is the current status regarding Prolog.

    The technical evaluation by Arlette Gubert in Valbonne is now complete.
    The recommendation to go with IF-Prolog (from Interface in Germany),
    with the possible alternative to select Delphia-Prolog (from Delphia
    in France). The full report is available over the net (contact Arlette
    at YIPPEE::GUBERT) for details.

    The US have decided to stay with Quintus because the SPG group which
    used to manage the product has dropped
    it and only AI marketing said that they would "pick it up", for
    strategic reasons ("Digital should have a complete AI language
    offering"), but due to lack of resources, they 'd rather stay with
    Quintus (however poor it is) than trying to introduce a new DDS
    Prolog.

    I am in the process of polling my marketing counterparts in the
    various European countries to see what is their preference regarding
    a European or local solution. The final decision has not been made,
    so you can feed your input to your marketing contact. When a decision
    is reached, I will post it.
