59.0. "Customer AI seminar in April" by HERON::ROACH (TANSTAAFL !) Mon Jan 23 1989 14:29

On April 27 & 28th the E/ACT here in Valbonne will host an AI Seminar
for customers. The first reply to this note is a copy of the formal
internal announcement for the seminar. The seminar will be based
upon a modified version of the Expert System's Technology Transfer
Seminar. We are spicing it up a bit with demo's, video's and two
external guest speakers; Don Mick of Aetna Insurance Company talking
about Aetna's experiences as DEC's AI partner for the last 3 years,
and Professor Harold Cohen of the University of California San Diego
discussing the ability of experts systems to capture and emulate
the creativity of an artist. Dr. Cohen is also expected to unveil
a piece of computer generated art for the new customer center during
    the seminar.

The announcement was sent to corporate account teams and AI marketeer's
throughout Europe and we have not received much response. The mistake
was in not sending the announcement to the people who know WHO should
be invited; YOU, the people actually selling the technology in your
    respective countries!

If you are trying to close some AI business or simply trying to
stimulate an AI interest in any of your key accounts, this seminar
should be of great benefit to you. If you are considering inviting
any customers, please write me mail directly at Pat Roach @VBO or
HERON::ROACH and let me know. This way we can get a feel for the size
    of our audience.

    Thanks,

                            Artificial Intelligence Seminar
Practical Aspects of Moving Expert Systems into the Work place
                            April 27th - 28th, 1989
                           Sophia Antipolis, France

Find below the announcement of the next AI Seminar that the European
Application Center for Technology will run on the 27th and 28th of
April, 1989 at the European Technology Center in Sophia Antipolis,
    France.

This seminar, based on over 10 years of DIGITAL's experience in
managing the development of expert systems, provides our PROSPECTS with
a comprehensive overview, structured methodology, and tools critical to
successfully choosing, planning, managing and implementing expert
    systems in their respective organizations.

The topics will be presented in a format which includes lectures, a
prerecorded video case study, and group discussions designed to cover
practical strategies for managing the expert system process from three
    perspectives: strategic/business, technical, and human
    resource/organizational.

As the seminar will be run in English, please ensure that your customer
has a sufficiently high level of English.

Before inviting the customer(s), please carefully edit and return the
attached briefing questionnaire to FRANCOISE JUNG @VBO. Each
application will be qualified by the seminar host.

Unfortunately, due to the limited number of places available (35), not
all requests will be accommodated. If you have a country coordinator to
centralize requests, please make sure that you go through this person.

To make the trip worthwhile for your customer, please check to ensure
that the agenda contents match your customers expectations.

Notes : The seminar and documentation, as well as lunches and the
formal dinner (on Thursday evening) are at the E/ACT's expense.
Any individual transportation and the hotel bill are at the
customer's expense. However we will make the hotel reservations
for all participants as well as any local group transportation.

Participants are expected to arrive on April 26th, ready to
start the seminar at 9:00 on the 27th (Thursday). The seminar
will end in the afternoon of Friday, April 28th.

                        ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SEMINAR

                                Seminar Purpose

Upon completion of this seminar, the customer will understand the
critical components of successful expert systems program management
and will be shown demonstrations of successful expert systems currently
in day-to-day operation within DIGITAL. The critical components
    include:

o	The importance of, and techniques for, choosing the right problem
        domain.

o	The appropriate use of expert systems methodology compared to
        conventional approaches.

o	How to set a boundary to the problem and develop the related
        prototype.

o	How to manage change in the project.

o	How to manage the overall expert systems development program.

                                   Audience

The successful management of expert systems programs and projects
requires that all persons involved must understand the total
development process and their own roles within it. Expert systems
applications managers, project managers, members of a project team,
or anyone with responsibility for managing expert systems development
    would benefit from this seminar.

However, due to the limited number of seats available, and potential
positive impact this seminar can have on your account, you should aim
to invite the type of persons who will be influential, and have a
vested interest in making this technology successful in their
companies. An ideal representation from a company would be a team of
two people; a business sponsor who is championing the technology in
their organization plus his or her technical consultant who will be
tasked with managing the implementation of the technology.

                                Seminar Format

The presentations and demonstrations will be prepared and delivered by
the European Application Center for Technology knowledge engineers and
technology transfer consultants with extensive experience in the
development of expert systems. This effort will be also supported by
DIGITAL's AI Marketing team plus guest speakers from industry with
experience in managing the introduction of AI solutions in their own
    corporations.

59.2Thanks!HERON::ROACHTANSTAAFL !Tue Feb 14 1989 16:1420
Thanks to all of you who have helped in generating customer interest
for the seminar. Given the current listing, it looks like we have
45 customers and 19 DEC escorts signed up for a total attendance
list of 64. Our room fits a comfortable 56! Given that there are
always some cancelations, we will have just about a perfect # of
attendee's. This means that we won't have to turn down any of the
    requests.

We will be composing and sending out the formal customer invitations
this week. If you have a very important customer that you just HAVE
to have attend the seminar, this is your last chance. We feel confident
that we could squeeze in a few more if necessary, but time is of
    the essence!

Thanks again for your help in making this a successful customer
    event.

Here's to closing some real business!
