14.1Lighting design for soccer-fieldsUTRUST::DEHARTOG925Wed Dec 06 1989 11:3037
Here is a demo that we (Philips and Digital) made during the AI-fellowship-
program last summer.
It is a prototype for designing the lighting of a sports-field (soccer in
particular).

You can copy the file UTRUST::USER1:[DEHARTOG.PUB]LINDA.BCK (3150 blocks),
unpack it and try to run it with the following commands:

	$ SET DISPLAY /CREATE /NODE=<your node> ! if you're on a X-window-server
	$ DEFINE GKS$WSTYPE 211   ! 41 if you're still running UIS
	!Without the previous commands you even can run it on a VT240 but it's
	!no fun
	$ RUN LINDA

What you need locally is GKS and OPS5. If you don't have OPS5, you might
be able to run LIBDA.EXE (has OPSINTERP in it). If you run into version-
mismatches, you can reload the stuff with the command MMS LINDA.EXE or
MMS LIBDA.EXE (if you don't have MMS, have a look in the file descrip.mms
to see the link-commands).
Finally, if your in deep trouble, you can recompile; in that case you need
VAX-Pascal. I strongly recommend NOT to change the sources because you're
likely to break the hole thing. They are just there to show how it was done
(combining OPS5, GKS and Pascal).

If everything is OK, it'll come up with a GKS-Icon and after de-iconifying
it, you can click on the help- and explain- options and the demo should be
self-explainatory from then onwards.

The "intelligent" part of it, is where the demo comes up with suggestions to
place the masts in another position or change the aiming-angle of the flood-
lights.

Some of you know about the hazzle I went through to settle the legal issues
of this project. PLEASE, DON'T EVER SHOW THIS DEMO TO CUSTOMERS!!! You can
show it to Digital-people ONLY!

Have fun!							Hans.
