399.0. "DDS-Lookup and Password with V1.7" by ZUR01::teamc1.zuo.dec.com::RIGI::BURKHALTER () Mon Feb 17 1997 10:49

Hi

Customer reports the following problem with V1.7. They just upgraded
their installation from V1.0C.

If they do a DDS-Lookup they were always asked for a password. It
seems that the Driver doesn't recognizes that server and username is
the same for DDS-Lookups as for the connection itself. With V1.0C
this problem doesn't exist as the customer said.

Customer is running Windows for Workgroups in a Novell network.

Do you know of any changes from V1.0C to V1.7?

Regards

Rolf

    this was one of the side effects of upgrading the CFC module to the
    latest version. The directory service connection is now "separate"
    from the login. My understanding is that the intent is to allow other
    clients to use different directory services. For example, in
    Teamlinks, you can customize your directory service and use something
    like WINELF instead of the default one. This feature is NOT available
    in the driver and there is no plan to include it.

Hi Cindy

Thanks for your reply.

I'm now looking for a workaround for my customer. What do you think
about the following:

- Create a dummy MailWorks user on the server and use this dummy user
to do all the DDS-Lookups for all users. I would add the following
section to the file DMWOFFIC.IN_:

	[DDS]
	Server=Servernode
	Username=dummyuser
	Password=dummypassword

I already tried this and it seems to work but I'm not sure if using
one specific account to do all DDS-Lookups for all users will work
correct.

Thanks and regards

Rolf

PS. Is there a way to run a post-installation procedure after the
installation?

    My understanding of how this is working is that IF the user is logged
    on to a DIFFERENT node than the one in the [DDS] section, they get
    prompted for a password; if the nodes are the same, they don't. Do
    they have a different server for DDS lookups than the one they log
    into?

That's not correct. If I log into node A as user X and the entry in
the [DDS] section is

	[DDS]
	Server=A
	Username=X

I get prompted for a password. There is no difference if I use the
same or another node and/or username for the lookup. I always get
prompted for a password.

The only situation I don't get prompted for a password is if I add
the password to the [DDS] section.

What do you think about using a dummy account for the lookups?
