I INTRODUCTION

The Vax Diagnostic Report is published by the Systems Integration
Engineering Group. It is intended for use as a vehicle to alert
the diagnostic users of problems and solutions. The information
in this report is intended for INTERNAL DIGITAL USE ONLY.

If other problems or patches develop please feel free to
contact the person below, so that an accurate and updated
          problem report be can kept.

II GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Starting with Release 34, we have added a numbering system to the
Patches and Notes section of this report.

   These are numbered by: XX.N

Where XX = Number of the SSB (formerly known as the SDC) Release in
which the problem was first discovered.

and N = A sequential numbering of the problems found within the
		   same release.

(Note: Since this information is not available for all the problems
previously listed in this report - these problems will have
"x" listed as the Release number.)

| 2. The following items are summarized from the VAX DIAGNOSTIC NEWS memo
| produced by the Diagnostic Release Engineering Group in TWO.
|
| I. Release 37 is a milestone for all of our Level 2, 2R, and 3 diagnostic
| programs. All of these have been updated to full compliance with
| DEC STD 178-6 and are being released in Release 37.
|
| II. VAX 11/780-family CPU Diagnostics Have Been Retired :
| ---------------------------------------------
| All our ES*, ET*, and EV* diags that "solely" supported the VAX 11/780,782,
| and 785 have been removed from all our large media in Release 37. Also,
| all the RX01s (and kits) which supported these systems have been retired,
| and fiche has been frozen at the last released rev. for each program. So,
| Release 36 was the last distribution of diags, media, kits, and fiche which
| supported these systems.
|
| III. Nautilus News :
| -------------
| In Release 37, there are a couple of new things to support Nautilus.
|
| MEMCHECK - MEMCHECK is a new tool primarily for Digital Sales Reps. to use.
| It may also be helpful to Field Service reps. This tool will check Nautilus
| and Skipjack (and eventually Polarstar) systems to determine how thoroughly
| memory is interleaved, and thus help prevent the sale of memory upgrades
| which diminish performance.
|
| Distribution to Field Service and internal Mfg. personnel - Look for the
| saveset MEMCHECK001.A on BB-T988R-YE FLD SVC UPD TAPE #37 PRT 2-3 in kits:
| 00-ZE950-CW.37 or 00-ZE999-HM.37 NOTE: This saveset is restricted to
| INTERNAL USE ONLY. It should never be given to a customer or left at a
| customer site.
|
| Sales Reps. will be supported via an upcoming SALES UPDATE article and the
| placement of the saveset in their toolshed (Ken Valcourt, the Submitting
| Engineer, is working with the appropriate Sales contacts to accomplish this).

                       INTERNAL DIGITAL USE ONLY

| SAIP INFORMATION PKG - Microdiagnostic .TXT files will be released on RX50s
| (like getting fiche on an RX50). The seven RX50s below house these .TXT
| files (which are also restricted to INTERNAL USE ONLY).

34.1 EVDAPMIC.EXE file is corrupted on Release 34 Media. The CSSE
organization will be sending out a Field Service Blitz with
information on where to obtain an un-corrupted version of this file.

      Due to this problem, EVDAP.EXE, EVDAP.HLP, EVDAPTST.EXE, AND EVDAPMIC.EXE
had to be removed from the 6200/6300 TK50's. The release notes for
each of these state that these files are included. It was too late
to change the release notes when this problem was found. These files
are included on other Release 34 pieces of media.

x.36 The following list of VAX diagnostics may fail on a VAX 8600 if start
or run with the /QA switch:

EVCBA, EVDXA, EVRBA, EVRCA, EVRDA, EVRDB, EVREF, RVREG, EVRFA

x.34 ECCBA VAX 11750 UBI/DW750 DIAGNOSTIC
1.4 1. Will fail test 29 when a TUK50 is on the second UNIBUS.

NOTE: The work around is to SET TRACE prior to running this
diagnostic on systems with a TUK50 on the second UNIBUS

x.33 ECKAC VAX 11/750 MICRO MIC
8.0 1. May fail the following microdiagnostic tests if L0003-YA

                       INTERNAL DIGITAL USE ONLY

x.30 EVALA LPA11-K SYSTEM
1.2 NOTE: If using the test module M5036, with the KW11-K cable
plugged in, the Y jumper in for KW to AD and the event
flag set, Test 20 will fail. Not a software problem.

Removing the jumper or cable (BC08R-8) will allow
                  the diagnostic to run.

NOTE: Section:DACAL will not loop, to perform
adjustments. It is not supposed to loop.

             1. Fails Test 31 if less than 5 DR11-Ks are configured for
the LPA11-K with IOSB status error of 34C(x),
SYS-F-IVBUFLEN. It also fails version 4 or 5 of the ucode

                 No patch available

x.29 EVALB AA11-K D/A CONV REPAIR
         1.1 1. In the micro fiche, event flags 8 & 9 have
                their meanings switched.

x.28 EVALC AD11-K A/D CONV REPAIR
1.3 NOTE: Failures on tests 11,19 and 20 when the KW11-K cable
is connected to the KW11-K and the mux panel along
with the Y-jumper installed. This is not a diagnostic
                  problem.

x.27 EVALE KW11 DUAL PROG CLOCK
1.1 NOTE: Failure on Test 2 when the KW11-K cable is connected
to the KW11-K and the mux panel, and the Y-jumper is
installed. This is not a diagnostic problem.

Removing the jumper or cable (BC08R-8) will allow
                 the diagnostic to run.

                       INTERNAL DIGITAL USE ONLY

x.26 EVALF LPA11-K I/O BUS TEST
1.1 1. When trace is set, some tests are aborted. This is due
to the fact that the diagnostic attempts to run a
particular section on all selected devices. If the
tests in that section are not for the selected device
the tests in that section are aborted i.e. AA11
tests are aborted when the DR11's are under test.

                No patch available

NOTE: Test 31 fails when the KW11-K cable is plugged
into the KW11-K. Not a diagnostic problem.

Removing the jumper or cable (BC08R-8) will allow
                the diagnostic to run.

             2. In order to run the DR11K the diagnostic requires a
device name of DRan. In order to do this a "CLEAR
ENFORCE" command must be given to the Diagnostic
Supervisor so it will recognize "DRan" as a legal device
                name.

x.25 EVCBB VAX DWBUA-BI to UNIBUS
2.3 1. NAUTILUS family systems may experience an error on
test 20 of this diagnostic. This is NOT a hardware
                failure.

NOTE: This problem is under investigation by Engineering

x.24 EVDAA VAX DZ11 8 LINE ASYNC MUX
3.1 1. This diagnostic will fail test 10 when run on a VAX 8650

x.23 EVDAI VAX DHU11 FUNCTIONAL VERIFY TEST
3.1 1. Random tests (9,13,15,19,25) may fail when run on a
                VAX 8600/8650
