Dear All,

Its great to see so many people working on different tasks and projects and
generally trying to make things better in Systems Diagnosis and indeed the
rest of the CSC.

However one thing I have come to notice is that several people are working on
the same kind of projects as other and not knowing what the other person(s) are
doing.

So in order to help people know what is going on and to get to-gether if they
are working in similar area's, can everyone please do the following:-

Very briefly outline what activities/"projects" you are working on (and who
with), and distribute it to all members of the Systems Unit. As simple as that.
(I include myself as a member of the Unit!)

If I dont see anything from anyone I will assume they are currently inactive on
additional work related activity and will be in touch to help me or others with
their area's.

Thanks in advance

Michael

Hello All and Michael,

Just to bring everyone up to date on my projects (not
that I have done a lot on this one yet) I have included my entry from the CSG
notes file.
I also send out Telesupport survey forms and process them on their return.

          <<< KERNEL::DISK$APD1:[NOTES$LIBRARY]CSGUK_SYSTEMS.NOTE;1 >>>

COMICS::ROBB                                         25 lines   2-AUG-1989 09:41
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone will have had a copy of the mail which included the attached
entry. As most of you will have already noticed we have started
    getting feedback on Telesupport calls.
Mike Dickson is working on a project which should give us some form
of feedback on RDC calls. I will keep you informed of any developments
in this area that I get to hear about.
Meanwhile please use replys to this note to let me have your thoughts
on the Telesupport feedback we are already getting and what we can
put into a roadshow. We should ge looking for quite a lot of direct
feedback as well as telling the regions just what we have to offer.

. Feedback Responsible: Ken Robb

Our relationship with the Field could be improved by better communication
on both sides. Ken is to look at ways of getting the Field's feedback
communicated to us, including possibly reviving the Telesupport survey.
There is a project underway to put an extra line on LARS specifically for
feedback; Ken will investigate this. He is also looking at ways of
communicating to the Field about us and what we do; a kind of Diagnosis
Roadshow.

75.3KERNEL::MOUNTFORDTue Oct 17 1989 19:2910
I am currently working on the following projects & ideas.

    1) IIE facilitating
    2) DSDN (RSDS equiv.)seminars for TSC along with Norman Pettet & John
       Travell.
    3) Fact finding on the possibility of working from home, using remote
terminals & equipment (see next entry).

    Richard.
75.4REMOTE WORKING.KERNEL::MOUNTFORDTue Oct 17 1989 19:4218
As part of the fact-finding exercise on remote working, it has been
suggested that a pilot or trial be set up over the Christmas period.

    Reasoning behind this:
    ----------------------
It is a very quiet period of the year, with very few calls, which
would give us some indication of unforseen problems & finally it
would alleviate the need for someone to come into the office over
    the period.

I would appreciate any input on the following issues.

   1) When should we run it (IE Christams day & Boxing day, 07:30-19:30)?
   2) Volunteers to work the days.
   3) Any other suggestions on making it work.

    Cheers Richard.

75.9My ResponsibiltiesKERNEL::BLANDtoward 2000 ...Thu Oct 19 1989 10:2621
Currently I am involved in the following:-

	a) The ordering and distribution of "Hardware MicroFiche" for all
the Diagnosis Groups. I intend shedding this responsibility by
the end of this calendar year. It is hoped that Janet (our
secretary) will take over this role.

	b) Jointly involved with Norman Pettet in maintaining a "HARDCOPY
LIBRARY". Any inputs on how the library could be improved or
manuals that we do not have, will be addressed by either of us.

	c) I have recently taken on the role of being the "Focal Canasta
Person" in the Systems Diagnosis Group. Any inputs about Canasta,
good or bad can be addressed to me. Although Canasta (currently
at BL3 - Base Line 3), only functions in Manual mode, I have been
attempting to use it for both experience and to see if it gives
the required problem resolution. So far I am reasonably impressed.
Canasta BL4 promises us with Automatic mode.

    	Just for the record..

I am involved with the following..

o You all know that I am responsible for the day to day
running of the Rota, and planning overtime requirements
etc to ensure manning levels are correct.

o I have been involved recently with trying to devise a
new shift rota to meet out needs for the future. This
is going well and a proposed rota is taking shape. If
you have not seen this please come and see me.

o I have been involved with Ian McGaughrin in looking at
crashdumps with a view to SDD doing crashdump analysis
    	  to filter out known bugs.

o I am also working on ideas for improving our use of
technical information available, to setup some sort of
    	  knowledge database (see note 42)

Time to put it down on paper.

o Trying to maintain the group training plan.

Although, from the underwhelming response to my mail, it seems
that only one engineer needs more training.(Thanks Roland)
      That will make life easier.

o Maintenance of DT tools, relevant to 8600.

o Setting up a "Venus Troubleshooting course" with Brian Lindley
      and Mike Heaney.

o Maintaining the ECSO rota and co-ordinating ECSO.

o Studying for Level 8 Board.

o Assisting Ken (when required) with the CFSU engineer surveys.
