35.0. "Environment topic." by KERNEL::SOWTON (Diagnosis does it down the phone..) Wed May 03 1989 10:28

Please use this note for any environment issues you
may be aware of. Include any suggestions for improvement
or modification to our surroundings you think will be of
    benefit to the group.

Try to stay away from issues that have been (are being)
discussed in other notes...i.e. smoking, although an environment
issue, should probably not be discussed here. I believe it's
been mentioned in a previous note.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the desk/seating arrangements
as they exist in the Systems Unit ? Do you think a better "Team"
atmosphere would be created if we all sat within speaking rather
    than shouting distance ?

(The definition of this distance obviously varies between individuals,
maybe we could arrange the seating plan to suit :-} )

The RDC is a BAD environment to work in because of noise
	levels.

The problem starts with Field Engineers having to make
themselves heard in noisy computer rooms by raising their voices.
By the time they join RDC talking with a raised voice is natural.

Today the problem is accentuated by having to handle fault
and tech assist calls. How can someone wading into a succulent system
problem be mega efficient when the person next to him is ploughing
into a tech assist at a great rate of decibels.

A way round this problem is to train all new recruits to
our environment to talk at a level that is loud enough to be heard
at the other end of the phone but quiet enough not to distract his
	colleagues.

                "WHAT SAYS YOU"!!!!!
