29.0. "scorpio goodies" by KERNEL::ADAMS (Venus on Remote Control) Thu Apr 20 1989 02:48
Good morning,
Please take note,I'll spell this word perfect for Dave Clark,although it
doesn't apply to all of devices,mostly those on shift.
Further to a mail yesterday regarding EPROM updates on Scorpio machines,
an attempt to update the patch revision levels remotely was sucessfully
achieved.The session is below.The FCO quoted yesterday,which also appears
on Stars,upgrades microcode on the Scorpio to rev 21,min required for VMS
V5.0.
This update to rev 25,allowed the customer to run SMP (synchronous multy
processing) on his 8350 machines,which previously had a mis-match,with rev
25 on the primary cpu & 23 on secondary.This could also occur in future if an
engineer swaps the cpu module,without checking the rev levels,with V5.0
installed.
It is a bit long winded, but there were 2 machines upgraded,the second
experiencing chksum errs until reseated.This procedure could save the
branch/customer several wasted hours.Only 2 floppies required,diagnostic
supervisor & floppy with ebuca diagnostic.
Thanks to Ken Robb for his assistance.
PS.Any feedback,greatly appreciated,sarcasm excluded,Richard.

29.4 | revision levels on scorpios | KERNEL::ROBB | | Mon Nov 13 1989 14:03 | 36 |
| Hello all,
We seem to be still having a number of problems on 8200/8250 and
8300/8350 because the field are still not doing FCO's or upgrading the
microcode patches.
Whenever you get a call on any of the above systems please check the SID.
For 8200, 8300 (KA820) (T1001)
The acceptable values are 05283914 or 05283b14 for rev E and patches
28 or 29. ^^^^ ^^^^
If you have anything other than the 28 then the module(s) need to be replaced.
If you have anything other than the 39 or 3b then the ka0029.pat needs to be
installed.
For 8250, 8350 (KA825) (T1001-ya)
The acceptable values are 05903914 or 05903b14 for rev B and patches
28 or 29. ^^^^ ^^^^
If you have anything other than the 90 then the module(s) need to be replaced.
If you have anything other than the 39 or 3b then the ka0029.pat needs to be
installed.
The patch can be installed remotely if you wish. You will find ka0029.pat in
RDC$COMMON. If you do not wish to install it then just copy it down to the
sysmaint account on the customers system for a branch engineer to install.
Remember if you do install it yourself you need to type T <CR>
at the >>> prompt. This will invoke the new code.
Regards,
Ken.

TITLE: Console Microcode Functionality DATE: 12-13-89
AUTHOR: Jim Vermette TD #: 000152
DTN: 240-6496
ENET: VOLKS::VERMETTE CROSS REFERENCE #'s:
DEPARTMENT: MID-RANGE CSSE (PRISM/TIME/CLD#'s)
INTENDED AUDIENCE: U.S./EUROPE/GIA PRIORITY LEVEL:2
(U.S./EUROPE/GIA) (1=TIME CRITICAL,
2=NON-TIME CRITICAL)
=====================================================================
An enhancement to the 82XX/83XX Console Microcode has been
made to allow the user to examine or deposit to multiple addresses
with the /N qualifier.
As of Diagnostic Release 36 Utility Program Floppy BL-FG80P-ME
will contain this functionality. Loading KA0029.PAT or either KA825.SYS,
KAINIT2.SYS will allow the usage of the /N qualifier.
Example:
>>>E/P/L/N:4 200
P 00000200 00000000
P 00000204 00000000
P 00000208 00000000
P 0000020C 00000000
>>>E/P/L 200/N:4 Returns the same result.
>>>E/N: Will Loop until halted by Control^P.
Note: The deposit command will work in the same fashion.
