426.0. "Scanner in Mo's Office" by JOKUR::BOICE () Mon May 19 1997 09:43
The scanner is now set up in Mo's office. Here's a first pass at basic
instructions, which admittedly are pretty rough. I'd appreciate it if the
first person through the process (either the image or OCR scan process)
would mark up these instructions up so that they can be refined for the
next person.
Note that the PC used is not on the network. All scanned files will need
to be moved to another system via floppy.
A. To get things going:
1. Turn on power to the system, monitor, and the scanner. The monitor and
the scanner have lights on the front panel to indicate they are "on."
2. Type the DOS password of ceogrp. (Note, because of monitor deficiencies,
the text wraps around on the screen in DOS mode making it difficult to
read in DOS mode. I recommend you NOT fiddle with the controls to fix it.)
3. Type WIN to get to Windows. (Ignore (or cancel) any errors that may
appear on screen during login.)
4. Click on the Scanner Utilities program group.
B. If you're scanning an image:
1. Click on Image Folio Icon
2. File --> Acquire
3. Make settings:
Color:
256 colors
Reflective
200 dpi
100%
Black and White:
Lineart
Reflective
100 dpi
100%
4. Press Preview
5. Adjust the Selection Area by pulling corners and dragging lines to
encompass the area to be scanned.
6. Press Scan
7. Save as an "xyz.pcx" file.
C. If you're scanning a page/document for OCR:
1. Select WordLinx 2.0C Incon from Scanner Utilities program group.
2. Select Scan from the WordLinx Setup screen
3. Settings should be:
Lineart
Reflective
300 dpi
100%
4. Preview
5. Adjust the Selection Area by pulling corners and dragging lines to
encompass the area to be scanned.
6. Press the Scan button.
7. Press the OCR button.
8. Your page will be placed in an MS Write file. You can either save
this page as either a write or a text file, or you can scan additional
pages of the same document.
