Hi
I'm new to LSM so this may be a silly question.I have a customer who has
upgraded from du3.2c to 4. As he did this he
noticed that his mirrored root disk is no longer mirrored although volprint
and
dxlsm show that it is.
(from the customer)" To test this, I created a file in / and then rebooted on
the second boot disk of the mirror. It booted with Digital Unix 4.0 but at
the
stage in the update installation just after loading all the subsets where it
then reboots and completes configuring the subsets. Clearly it had lost the
mirror at this stage and hence my file was also missing as mirroring hadn't
been occurring.
1. When booting before the upgrade, the console would always display
"Starting LSM in BOOT mode..." as it brought up / and swap and then
"Starting LSM" as it brought up the rest of the LSM file systems. Now it
only displays "Starting LSM". This was my main clue that the / and swap
mirroring was no longer working.
3. Dis-associating the plex and then re-associating it for each of /, swap and
/usr enables us to get mirroring up and running for the life of that uptime.
Once a reboot happens though, root, swap and /usr mirroring is lost again
until
manually dis-associating and re-associating again."

Any clues pointers etc would be appreciated.

This file is the same as before the upgrade except then it had 0.3 instead of
0.9 on the first line.
Other information:
He gets these meesages at boot up
disklabel: vol/rootdg/rootvol: no such file or directory.
/sbin/rc2.d/S00savecore start:

The information in you note is a bit confusing. The volprint output that you listed shows that the mirror is in place and active. I'm wondering if this volprint was done after the disassociating and reassociating the plex? If so, could you send an output for volprint before the disassociation is done? Also Would you please forward a copy of /etc/inittab and /etc/fstab as well. In the meantime, you might want to take a look at note 769.1 to see if any of things items listed there help. G'day The Volprint should be the one after the system boots but He is going to check that again. But the sysconfigtab didn't have the lsm setting in it, nor does the inittab (thanks for the hint) have the lsmbstartup or the volconfig lines so I'm waiting on the results of fixing these first .
