754.0. "Disks and volumes disappear after rebooting." by EPS::NGUYEN (Without fools there would be no wisdom.) Fri Feb 07 1997 16:41

Hi there,

I've created a couple of AdvFS domains on LSM volumes and mounted
them successfully. After rebooting the system, all of my
just-created volumes are gone. The domain information in the /etc/fdmns
is fine but I could not see any volumes when "ls /dev/vol"
the "voldiskadm" show all the disks with "errors" status.

I could only "offline" the disks (HSZ40 disks - by the way) but
could not do anything else like "remove" (error: can not find any such
disk in any diskgroup), "encapsulate" (error: no such device or address),
"initialize" (error: does not appear to be valid).

I could see the disk from the ">>>sh dev" boot prompt though.

I would appreciate it for any information of how to resolve this
problem.

Thanks.

754.1dxlsm can see disks only ...EPS::NGUYENWithout fools there would be no wisdom.Fri Feb 07 1997 16:516
Again, when I used "dxlsm" when all the disk are put offline, I
could see the PD's but again, cannot use any menu commands to do
anything to those disks.

754.2Some on screen information...EPS::NGUYENWithout fools there would be no wisdom.Fri Feb 07 1997 17:3162
I thought that it might be clearer of what I'm asking by including
some on-screen information.

Were the diskgroups "ora" and "bse" deported? Is this an
ASE configuration? What happens when you try to import
them (i.e., 'voldg import bse' and 'voldg import ora')?

I've tried to import these diskgroup but no successful.
Here is the error message:

....(from option 8 "voldiskadm").....
Select disk group to import [<group>,list,q,?] (default: list) bse

  Importing disk group import failed.
  Error:

Invalid argument index
/usr/lib/lsm/bin/disk.import: voldg: Disk group bse: import failed: No valid disk found containing disk group: not found

.... AND....
# voldg import ora
voldg: Disk group ora: import failed: No valid disk found containing disk group

No, this is not and ASE configuration. (I also forgot: I'm using D/U 4.0b)

754.5Fixed...but why???EPS::NGUYENWithout fools there would be no wisdom.Tue Feb 11 1997 09:237

I've fixed the problem. Somehow, the scsi bus ID changed and
the driver ID's are different from what they were. I don't know
what was the cause though.
