871.0. "alpha bios - NT boot select - KZPAA" by NBOFS1::RITZER (Guenter Ritzer) Wed Apr 02 1997 05:53

     hi
    Yesterday, I installed two new alphaserver 1000a with pre installed
    windowsNT 4.0 and a KZPAA (add on) as tape controller.

    Without the KZPAA it works fine and with it the a1000 can't boot.

    In the configuration is the KZPAA the first controller all slots
    and with the old
    arc console it was no problem to switch to the second contr. as
    scsi(1)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)... but how is this with the new
    alpha bios - I can only select the disk and the partition but not the
    scsi controller.
    I think this is basic knowledge but no one here knows the answer.

    regards from nuernberg

In AlphaBIOS, the disk and partition are mapped to a specific arc path so
users do not need to know about ARC path names.

Do you have any disks connected to the KZPAA? If so, then you will need to
change to disk number to the appropriate disk. To determine which controller
a disk is connected to, go to the Hard Disk Setup screen or Display System
Configuration | Hard Disk Configuration.

871.2less trainings - increase problemsNBOFS1::RITZERGuenter RitzerThu Apr 03 1997 06:118
    Thanks Scott
     So, in my case is no disk on the KZPAA, it's only for the tape.
    In the Hard Disk Setup is no change with and without the KZPAA.

     I think it is the easiest way tho install again from the CD, but there
    should be a way to fix it otherwise.

871.3new boot path with ALPHABIOSTOODS1::GINESTYThu Apr 10 1997 09:3914
    hi

    	I had the same problem some week ago on a 1000a 5/333
    you have just to make a new save of your boot configuration
    and ALPHABIOS update the path to the good scsi bus .

       Or if you want to be shure write down your current configuration
    and create a new boot .
