851.0. "AlphaServer 1000A dual power behaviour???" by UTRTSC::DRUMMEN (By motorcycle we do it fast) Thu Feb 27 1997 11:43
We had to install a dual power-supply in an AlphaServer 1000A.
But testing it gave for unexpected results. In console mode it
shuts of the power after an init. And under VMS it hangs the
systems as long as one of the supplies has no mains to it.
See the scenario below?
I also tested this configuration in an AlphaServer 1000 EV4/266.
That system doesn't see it at all if we remove one of the
power-cords nor in console-mode nor in VMS.
That is exactly the opposite as we get with the 1000A EV5/400.
Can some shed some light on this??

If I pull one mains-cable when VMS is running, the system hangs. It doesn't
accept terminal input anymore on my serial console.
If I then reconnect the second power-cable then the system resumes activity
again.
