A customer is upgrading a AS1000A from a 4/266 to a 5/300. The system module is a 54-23499-01. They installed the firmware off the AK-QYTCB-CA = AlphaServer 1000A 5/xxx firmware update CD. On POST with the 5/300 cpu module installed, they get a beep code of 1-3-3. The original memory was PB7MA-AC and the add-on memory is PB7MA-CE. In any combination of original memory or new memory ECC simms or no ECC simms, they still get the same beep code. They tried another system module, but no change. Does the AlphaServer 1000A 5/300 support both the 54-23499-01 an 54-23449-02 system modules? They have not tried another 5/300 module. Any ideas? Ed Burkhalter CSC Atlanta

Beep codes are described in the AlphaServer 1000A Service Guide (order number EK-ALPSV-SV) - Section 2.1. A beep code of 1-3-3 indicates the SROM could not find any good memory. Make sure the CPU daughter card and memory cards are properly seated into the main logic board. Main logic boards 54-23499-01 and -02 supports the 5/300 CPU daughter card. The difference between the main logic boards is that the -02 does not have a graphics chip. |
