907.1DIGITAL UNIX v4 not officially supported with v2LEMAN::NAUFFRAYTue Mar 04 1997 17:5910

      Hi Cecia,

    Until v2.0.h.0, Forte is still supporting DIGITAL UNIX v3,
    but the v3 will support DIGITAL UNIX v4.
    The release 3 of Forte is currently in a Beta mode, no precise
    date is currently announce for the General Availability version.

    Hope this helps,
    James

907.3Can the customer try the beta version?HGOVC::CECIAWONGKeep going...Wed Mar 05 1997 19:5518
Thanks for the fast responses, .1 & .2

Steve, does release 3 support Ingres native mode? The customer is Hong Kong
Hutchison who has bought Forte based on the condition that Ingres native is
supported.

After some minor TPC problem, the customer has installed Forte V2 successfully
onto Digital UNIX V4.0B. The customer has developed their application on IBM
RS6000, and would like to use Alpha for the production. We have to make sure
the customer can run Forte on Digital UNIX V4.0, otherwise we may lose the deal.

Now, can you or your team suggest what version of Forte that the customer should
try before V3 is released? Should they try the beta version if there is any?

Early summer - does it mean June?

Thanks for your help,
Cecia
907.4Fortes Official answer as of 3/7/97ALFSS1::NESTERFri Mar 07 1997 09:0522
    Cecia,

    Here is the official answer from Forte. Digital Unix V4.0 will not be
    officially supported until V3.0. It is possible that it could run today
    but you have to take the risk that it is "officially" UNsuported. As
    for Ingres, Ingres V1.2 will be suported on Digital Unix. Forte is
    making Ingres like any other database and will have full support for
    the product where ever Ingres runs.

    Now for the big question, when is V3 real? V3 as you know is currently
    in its second wave of field test. Forte says that things are going very
    well. The official answer for V3.0 is that in late July V3 will ship.
    This V3 is recommended for new customers and customers who absolutely
    need a V3 feature or just like to be on the edge (so to speak). In
    October a "production" V3 will be shipped. This is how V2 was released.
    First 2.0C for the early adopters and then 2.0.F for the production
    sites.

    Hope this helps!

907.52F2 looks OK on Unix 4.0AMARIN::ARVINDFix BUGS.. Call BUGS BunnyTue Mar 11 1997 11:516
    Forte 2F2 does work OK with Digital Unix 4.0A but *it is not
    officially supported*. I have run most of the features myself
    and they seemed to run OK. R3 is officially certified for
    Unix 4.0A.
