TOOL NAME: EXETOMEM

TECHNOLOGY: Electrical

FUNCTION: Simulator

Convert VAX-MACRO.EXE or Motorola sformat files into ASCII files
     to load into DECSIM RAMs.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The EXETOMEM program serves as the interface between a user
written macro program and DECSIM. It converts VAX-MACRO.exe or
Motorola sformat files into ASCII files within the format
required by the DECSIM load/text command. These output files are
used to load DECSIM structural memory models with the user's
     macro program.

STATUS: In use

AVAILABILITY: To request, send mail to ECADSR::HOTLINE

INTERFACES: DECSIM

CPU/OPERATING SYSTEM: VMS

SOURCE LANGUAGE: VAX C

ADVANTAGES OF TOOL:

 - Use of assembly-language written programs to be converted into DECSIM
Mem files to serve the purpose of diagnostics, ROM booting, and
   testing memory read and write.

 - Ablity to generate 7-bit ECC (Error Checking and Correcting Codes)
   on every 32-bit data word.

 - Ablity to generate parity memory cells with odd, even, or none.

 - Ablity of generating parity bits on every 1, 2, or 4 bytes.

 - Ablity to allow user to specify location of parity bits
(Most Significant Bit, Least Significant Bit or separate memory cells).

 - Ablity to format memory cells in different widths and partitions.

LIMITATIONS OF TOOL:

 - The width of the data memory cells are 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 bits

 - All data memory cells are assumed to be of the same width

 - Does not currently supported Dynamic Rams, but a future version will

 - Parity bits are generated on 8-bit increments of the data

 - Parity bits are attached either to the MSB or LSB of each memory
cell and cannot be inserted in the middle of the data sequence.

 - A 7-bit ECC will be generated on a 32 bit field.

 - ECC will always lie in separate cells or attached to a
   32-bit data word.

RESPONSIBLE ORGANIZATION:

     ECAD, send mail to ECADSR::HOTLINE

TRAINING: NONE

DOCUMENTATION:

A chapter in the "ECAD System Simulation Process" manual covers
EXETOMEM. To order a copy, send mail to ECADSR::DOCUMENT
     specifying your mail stop.
