112.0. "destination record length/format glitch on NT" by EVER::CONNELLY (I was misinformed) Wed Apr 23 1997 20:56

We're starting to use FTSO to transfer files from Alpha VMS to Alpha NT.
There is one particular file that always lands on NT with a null character
inserted into each record, throwing the record length off by one and
generally wreaking havoc. Occasionally we've seen this with other files
too. Just transferring the files with FTP works okay.

Is this anything that sounds familiar to anybody here? We're initiating
the copy on the Alpha VMS side with BASIC=ASCII FTPMODE.

- thanks, paul

If we understood your problem very well, you tried to transfer a file
from Alpha VMS to server Alpha NT with the following command :
FTSO> copy source_file host/user/password::destination_file basic=ascii ftpmode

To reproduce this problem, could you please send us this particular file?

Hi Paul,

We copy successfully your file HA_AM22F.CHG from OpenVMS AXP to Alpha NT with FTSO in BASIC FTPMODE.

We need more informations to solve this problem :
  1. Could you try to copy this file in NORMAL mode ? (use a FTSO server on NT side).
  2. What kind of file is it ? ( file created by a user application ? )
  3. Could you try to copy in BASIC FTPMODE with a new kit located on ISERE::FTSO$PUBLIC:FTSO_AXP014.A
     This is a beta release of the next version. This version will produce a log file SYS$LOGIN:FTSO_FTP.LOG
     if the logical FTSO_DEBUG is defined. (with the command define/system FTSO_DEBUG "On")
     Could you send to us this file please.

Thanks and regards.
