6459.0. "Need DetMCC (and DNS-Server) on AXP" by FROCKY::WIESSNER (Ralf Wiessner, Solution Integration Center FRS) Tue Aug 13 1996 21:25
Hello MCC-World,
first I like to congratulate the MCC-Team for the decision to port
MCC to Alpha.
Thanks, that is for sure one important element to secure the job of
some SI-Employees.
Now, as we discuss the possibility of having MCC on AXP-Systems with
our customer (German Stock Exchange), he came up with some points we
have to find solutions.
1. The German Stock Exchange has a distributed MCC-Setup in 6 different
locations over Europe. They use DNS as the directory, and in every
location there are 2 MCC Systems with on DNS-Server on each.
The customer plans are to remove all VAX'es in this locations.
Until today, this was the killing decision for DECmcc at the
Stock Exchange, cuz of unavailability of MCC on AXP.
Now, we can provide a migration path. But we are depending on
the DNS-Server. And I don'nt know of any plans to port the
DNS-Server to Alpha.
I don't know if the customer is happy, if the DNS traffic is going
through the WAN-lines, cuz it's a realtime trading network, where
95 % of the line capacity should go to the application !
I assume there is no other solution beside using local MIR for the
future ???
2. The configuration is havily depending on DetMCC. MCC on AXP is
just the half of the way. We also need DetMCC.
Will there be someone responsible taking this task ?
Just compile the C-Source doesn't work. I have test it.
From customer point of view, the best would be if DIGITAL can
provide this tool together with MCC, with an additional license
fee for example.
Anyway, its good to see, that the last Usergroup meeting (June 95) was
not wasted time.
Our customer is still interessted in this usergroup.
Thanks,
Ralf.
