6431.0. "Wish: more data in alarms-procedure's .DAT-file" by STKHLM::BERGGREN (Nils Berggren,DC Sweden 876-8287) Tue Feb 27 1996 21:43

Hi,

When an alarm-rule triggered by a DataCollector event fires and the
alarm-datafile is created, there's one field which would be very good
to have included: 'Perseived Severity'.

When notification displays such an alarm, it displays both the severity
defined by the alarm-rule *and* also the severity of the DataCollector-event
(displayed in the field 'Perseived Severity').

This 'original' severity can not be determined by the batch-procedure
started by alarms FM.

A customer has a problem with the integration of RoboMon with decmcc (I don't
have the details on how they do it). Their problem is that when a problem
occurs it sends a DC-event to DECmcc with some severity (except CLEAR)
and with a certain fixed title and text. When the problem disappears, it sends
a DC-event with exactly the same title and text but with a CLEAR-severity.

In the DECmcc maps, that's OK, since there will be a correlation between the
events, and the correct colour is reflected in the map.

However, the batch-job that starts when the alarm-rule fires upon receiving
the DC-event has no way of knowing if it's a clear or severe event....

Question to the DECmcc support team:
-------------------------------------
Would it be possible to include it in the .DAT-file created which is passed to
the batch-job procedure?

	thanks,
	Nils
