6420.0. "How to disable Menu Bar and other unwanted features" by BLG03::ROSSI () Fri Jan 26 1996 12:16

Hi,
I have a problem with the menu bar and with the MB3 pulldown
menu on MCC 1.3 and OpenVMS 6.1

My customer, a large customer, the biggest italian food producer, named
Barilla, need to disable the menubar of Iconic Map.

He need to disable operations from non-skilled operators.

MCC is used for monitoring Fire Alarms in a large food production site.
There are about 2000 Fire Detection Points that are represented in several
MCC maps.
Operators need to navigate on maps. "Double click" and Look Up" are the
only 2 feature requested.

All the other feaures of menubar and MB3 pdwn menu are dangerous beacase,
for example, if someone clicks on "Reset Selected Notifications" (a Fire Alarm
Notifcation, in this application) or if MB3 is released on "Rule View" instead
"Look Up", a non-skilled operator (a Fire-men) puts the MCC Station
in a unusable state or create a loss of informations.

Is there a solution to inibit all the menubar entries and MB3 pdwn menu
except "Look Up" feature ?

Is it possible to do this in the same way, for example, for Notepad
application, adding, in the Motif resource file DECW$NOTEPAD.DAT the line:

	notepad.sensitive:	false

This line disables the menu bar. Could I disable in a similar way all the
features not needed?

Sorry for bad English.

Many thanks in advance.

Bye

6420.1I think it is impossible !DSVB03::TABONEFri Jan 26 1996 15:0018
Hi Guiseppe,

Sorry, but this functionality doesn't exist in DECmcc (I never see
it for now !).
A workaround could be to open all the maps they need (if there are
not too much maps) and to click only on the map he wants to see. So,
he will not use MB3 or any menu.
Another thing could be to teach him a minimum to avoid panic in case
of bad navigation (rule view for example) and to write him some
little working instructions to help him in case of problem.

Another thing : MCC V1.3 is no more supported. MCC V1.4 is released
for one year now.

No problem for English, mine is not better :-)
