6415.0. "How to assign Node name&address to LB150" by DEKVC::JAEHOLEE () Fri Dec 08 1995 08:57

I have some simple questions, but a little serious issues to my customer.

1. How can I assign DECnet node id and DECnet addresss to Lan Bridge150?
I could register LB150 on Iconic Map using just specifying Ethernet Address.
My customer bought 2 LB150 for using one as a LTM, but LTM$LOAD_CONFIG.COM
says that LTM listener must have a DECnet nodename and DECnet address.
   I don't know how.

2. MCC manual also says that LTM load host must be a Phase IV node.
The current environment is VMS6.1, PhaseV for MCC station, 4 PhaseV nodes,
2 Phase IV nodes. DECMCC workstation is configured as a PhaseV and all
   Iconic maps are setup.

Anyway, what I(acutually my customer) really want to do is to monitor Lan
Traffic on line. Any teach would be appreciated.

	Thanks in advance,

Hello Lee,

I just want inform you that LTM is a product no more supported.

I see in th eLTM release notes the following :

 3. A DECNET node entry must be created on the load host.

                                      NOTE

The LAN Traffic Monitor V1.2 product provides a
command file which automates downline load
configuration of a DECnet-VAX host. See the LAN
Traffic Monitor V1.2 Installation Guide for details.

The use of a DECNET node entry does not imply that the LAN Bridge 100
or LAN Bridge 150 must operate as a DECNET node. The node entry
provides information to the DECnet-VAX downline loading software.
When DECnet-VAX receives a load request from a bridge, it uses the
bridge's ETHERnet address to find the entry for the bridge in the
DECnet node database. The node database entry contains the information
necessary to complete the downline load.

The node entry must have the following characteristics set correctly:

ADDRESS - unique user-supplied DECNET address
        NAME - unique user-supplied name
HARDWARE ADDRESS - Ethernet address from label on back of bridge
LOAD FILE - file specification of loadable image
SERVICE CIRCUIT - DECNET circuit name of the bridge's Ethernet

The Ethernet address of the bridge may also be available from the "ID
Card", which the installer fills out as part of the hardware
     installation procedure.

I'm afraid you have to downgrade your director to VMS V5.5-2, on a phase IV node.
And I'm not sure that LTM runs with MCC V1.4 !

Hope thi shelp you.
