6399.0. "MCC V1.4 and DETMcc V1.3-14 compatability?" by MPOS01::THOMPSONM () Mon Nov 06 1995 23:26

    I have DECmcc V1.4 running with DETMCC V1.3-14 and I think my
    MIR is messed up. Everything ran fine before installing DETMCC
    and after installation my domains are gone, I can't recreate the
    domains because they already exist, and when I create a new domain
    with another "new" name, I can't register any nodes that were in the
    domains that nolonger/already exist because there is no such entity.

    I don't know what happened so I figured I'd start by asking here
    if there was an incompatability problem between V1.4 of MCC and V1.3-14
    of DETMCC. I also know from reading previous notes that DETMCC is "no
    longer supported". If it looks like there are no compatability issues,
    I will start looking elsewhere for what my problem is.

    Thanx for any help-
    Mark

Mark,

	It seems that there is incompatibility problems
	between DECmcc and DETmcc.
	As you already know, the responsible person for
	DETmcc is no more working for Digital.

	If it can helps, DETmcc source code is available on

6399.2Works fine for us !FROCKY::WIESSNERRalf Wiessner, Solution Integration Center FRSWed Nov 15 1995 12:1716

    Mark,

    we have DetMCC running on 6 dezentralized DECmcc V1.4 systems at the
    german stock exchange without any problem. I don't see any functional
    issues between DetMCC and DECmcc. The job DetMCC does is mainly to
    allow to communicate with a detached process running MCC, doing nothing
    at all with domains.

    It seems to be an DNS problem. Do you have multiple DNS-Servers and
    directory replications in your network ?

6399.4Update and additional informationMPOS02::THOMPSONMWed Nov 15 1995 15:3819
    Erik and Ralf,

    Thank you for responding to my note. It seems that there is a
    difference of opinion here. The DECmcc system I am working with is a
    standalone at this site. I was not running the MIR with DNS, wanted to
    keep the config. simple. I have put the system back to V1.3 of DECmcc
    for the time being until I get a better handle on the relationship
    between DETmcc and DECmcc. I am still running VMS V5.5-2 on the system
    if that helps to know. Everything is running fine for now. I also
    have heard second hand from someone at the CNC that V1.3 is more stable
    than V1.4, that some problems with DECmcc have been reintroduced with
    V1.4. I don't mean for this note to be a discussion between the
    reliability of V1.3 vs V1.4 but thought I would mention it. I have no
    idea what the supposed problems between the two versions are. Have either
    of you noticed any difference or heard anything like this?

    Thanx again-
    Mark

6399.5DECmcc V1.4 or Not ?TAEC::GACHOTWed Nov 15 1995 16:0826
Mark,

	The problem with DETmcc and DECmcc is that, DETmcc was
	supposed to work with DECmcc V1.1 and V1.2 under Open
	VMS V5.4-3 to 5.5-2, according the the DetMCC SPD.

	According to your note we can say that it also work under
	DECmcc V1.3. And according to Ralf with V1.4 too...

	The problem is perhaps due to the Open VMS Version ?.

>>I also have heard second hand from someone at the CNC
>>that V1.3 is more stable than V1.4, that some problems
>>with DECmcc have been reintroduced with V1.4.

	Oops, I think and I'm quite sure that DECmcc V1.4
	is more stable. A lots of problem has been corrected
	and as far as I know "no problems with DECmcc have
	been reintroduced with V1.4 ;-)".
	If you have a list of problems under V1.4 which are
	not on V1.3, Please let me know. And I will do my
	best to help.

Regards,
		-Erik.

6399.7Nice to hear from you again !DSVB03::TABONEFri Nov 17 1995 09:2013
Hello Conrad,

I'm glad to hear from you again about MCC. You are always welcome.
I propose for everybody who have some remarks about V1.4 (old
problems reintroduced etc...) to open a new note and detail comments
in it.
As DECmcc IPMT administrator, I can tell you I don't remember to see an
V1.3 corrected problem reintroduced in V1.4.
If you have a such problem, please don't hesitate to use IPMT, it is for
that, and we ....also :-).

6399.8V1.4 works great!DPDMAI::GALVINThe Energizer Bunny's Trainer...Sat Nov 18 1995 20:4825
    Hi boys,

    I'll add my $.02 as well... the only issue with V1.4 is that is doesn't
    run on OpenVMS V6.2; if you need elaboration, I'll be glad... I have a
    similar note earlier in this conference where V6.2 was confirmed as not
    the platform to use with V1.4.

    To .0 of this note, I would urge you to do a rebuild of your data
    dictionary and perhaps uncomment the BMS_STARTUP file so that your
    dispatch table gets rebuilt after you give DETmcc another go...

    As Conrad can attest to, there's really no other way to do alarming
    than to use DETmcc... that's predominately why it was designed...

    Anyway, I've gone over my $$$$ limit... V1.4 is great I use it everyday
    on an OpenVMS V6.1 platform in the lab... and I have DETmcc, although I
    must confess I still create alarms the old fashion way using the
    IMPM...oops out of the closet...smile.

    cheers,

Mic,

	Ooops, Good question, may I suggest you to take contact
	with either, the DECmcc Product Manager, Suzan
	Pomerleau @VBO, or Joel Stunault @VBO
	the Project Leader.

Thanks,
