6378.0. "Command line inteface hang" by HLFS00::HESEN_W () Tue Sep 19 1995 15:08

We use DECmcc to monitor our network.
Polling of all network entities is done by some batch jobs
in which we get the information of the entities with the
    command line interface.

After one or two weeks those batch jobs are consumimg 100% CPU
time, but are in suspended mode.
We cannot kill those jobs. The only way to kill the jobs is by
    rebooting the system.

When the jobs are hanging we cannot use the command line interface :
The command hangs. A command like MANAGE/ENTER SHOW .... will hang.
With the grafical interface we don't have any problems. We can
get the information with the grafical interface.

The batch jobs do a MANAGE/ENTER SHOW BRIDGE * DEVICE STATE, TO FILE =
    BRIDGE_STATUS.TMP.
From this file we will get the status of every bridge and if the status
has changed we will send an event to DECmcc with the new status.
The last command of the batch job will submit itself and the polling of
    the bridges will start again.

Like this there is also a batch job for Terminal servers, Ip entities
and DECnet entities. DECnet entities are checked by polling the router
to see witch adjacencies are reachable.

We got this problem with DECmcc V1.3. Because DECmcc V1.4 is a bug fix
we upgrade DECmcc to V1.4, but we still have the problem.

Has any body seen this problem or can any body tell me why we get this
    problem.

    Wil.

Hi,

When you find things begin to hang, do you try MANAGE/ENTER SHOW .... on
bridge entities ?

Do you try on manage/enter show mcc 0 all char ?

I try to figure out if your problem may be related to bridge entities
or is for all entities.

bye,

Benoit

    Benoit,

The problem is not related to bridge entities.
A show command for other entities (Terminal server, decnet etc...)
    also hang.

The next time the batch job will hang I will try to get more information
and try more commands of the command line interface to see if maybe
    some commands will work.

    Wil.
