6376.0. "DETMCC giving MCC-I-NOENTREG error" by SNOTTY::BARRY (Ploppy Sir, Son of Ploppy) Thu Sep 14 1995 12:09

Hi All,

I have the following customer platform :

VAXstation 4000-90
80 MB Memory
DECnet Phase IV
VMS V5.5-2
MCC V1.3
DETMCC V1.3-14

I have about 200 alarm rules running in DETMCC interrogating various device
types. DETMCC is killed and the alarms reset at 12:00 every night by a batch
job. We recently have encountered DNS problems which have led to the platform
being anything but stable although the DETMCC alarming has stayed pretty
consistent. Recently, I have noticed that when I go into DETMCC and issue the
following command to check the alarm status :

"show domain * rule * all status"

I am getting the following output :

"%MCC-I-NOENTREG, No entities of the specified class are currently registered."

If I then release the batch job that resets the alarms I find that it runs fine
and seems to kill and re-enable the alarms fine, although the error message is
still there.

Does this look like some kind of database problem, should I reboot the machine
and see if it solves the problem ??

Is there a way of clearing out the DETMCC database and re-creating a clean one ??

Any urgent help would be greatly appreciated as this is a VERY important
customer (revenue from the network management in the millions!!!)

Barry,

DETmcc was sold by the ASSETS group, and has been retired
due to DETmcc Engineering departure !.

Unfortunatly, DETmcc is not supported within
	the DECmcc maintainance Team.

If it can help the DETmcc Source code are available,
and you will be able to find them on:

	TAEC::USER4:[MCC_PUBLIC.DETMCC...]

Ok...this is fair enough.......BUT there must be a lot of people out there using
DETMCC in the same way as I am......has anybody seen this problem before ??

Has anybody got any experience of clearing out databases etc etc ??

6376.3DETmcc does nothing extra...STKHLM::BERGGRENNils Berggren,DC Sweden 876-8287Mon Sep 18 1995 12:1924
Barry,

We're using DETmcc here in sweden at all DECmcc installations.

As you maybe know, DETmcc was developed here in Sweden by a guy who
didn't know anything about DECmcc but was a VMS-guru. He was asked
to write such an application that could run DECmcc and at the same
time 'be spoken to' by any user on the system.

So, what DETmcc does is simply (?) redirect SYS$INPUT and SYS$OUTPUT for
the process running DECmcc ($DetMCC_EXEC) to the process running the
$DetMCC_SERVER program.

The bottom line is that DETmcc doesn't do anything special with the commands
entered (except the KILL-command); the $DetMCC_SERVER just passes commands
to the $DetMCC_EXEC process and gets back the output which is printed on your
terminal.

If you get any error-messages back from DETmcc, you should get the same
error-message running DECmcc yourself.

	Hope this helps,

	/Nils

sorry, instead of

"So, what DETmcc does is simply (?) redirect SYS$INPUT and SYS$OUTPUT for

 $DetMCC_SERVER program."

it should be

"So, what DETmcc does is simply (?) redirect SYS$INPUT and SYS$OUTPUT for
the process running DECmcc ($DetMCC_EXEC) to the process connected to the
 $DetMCC_SERVER process (i.e. you)"
