6373.0. "Minimum Privileges Required ??" by SNOTTY::BARRY (Ploppy Sir, Son of Ploppy) Mon Sep 11 1995 16:41

Hi All,

I am trying to set up an MCC platform on a VMS box with two accounts on it. One
is a privileged account and therefore has all privilieges. The other account is
for monitoring purposes and therefore I want the people who will use it to be
able to fire up MCC, see all alarms produced and be able to enter the CLI for
MCC and interrogate devices. I dont want them to be able to alter any of the
maps or disable/delete the alarms.

Does anybody know what VMS privs I should give the account and if there are any
Identifiers I should grant the account ??

I have checked the MCC docs and cannot see any mention of privs. I would just
"have a play" but it is a customers box and they won't let me change the privs
myself !!

BTW - I am using VMS 5.5-2, MCC 1.3.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Barry

6373.2Nonpriviledged PeopleAZUR::GACHOTTue Sep 12 1995 18:2329
Hi Barry,

	Following the POLYCENTER Framework and Applications
	Planning and Installation for OpenVMS Guide (Page 6-8)

	If non priviledge user need to use DECmcc, you must
	change protection to allow them to access several files:

	After installing DECmcc file protection are set for System,
	owner and group to have full access and world to have READ-ONLY
	access.
	If a non priv user attempts to execute a directive that requires
	priv, error mess appears that a file prot vio exist.

	To change access control for only one user:

	$set file MCC_COMMON:MCC_DISPATCH_TABLE.DAT -
	  /ACL=(IDENT=[NETMAN,W_JAMES],ACCESS=READ+WRITE)

	To change file prot:

	$ set prot=w:rw MCC_COMMON:MCC_DISPATCH_TABLE.DAT

	In this guide you have also a full page, of DECmcc file Protections.

Hope it helps,

			-Erik.
