6319.0. "LB200 able to forward Internet multicast ?" by ZPOVC::SINSPS () Mon Jun 05 1995 06:23

    Hi,

    Will the following worked or supported ?

    My customer is trying to add a multicast address to LANbridge 200
    with these commands :-

            CREATE FORWARD DATA STATIC ENTRY 01-00-5E-00-00-05
            DISPLAY FORWARD/LOG *

    and getting an error saying "A multicast or broadcast address is
    not a valid identifier".

    The * above denotes the privilege password. The address given is
    a Non-Digital multicast address assigned to DoD Internet Multicast
    (RFC-1054).

    Thanks

6319.1Multicast instead of Static Entry, right ?ZPOVC::SINSPSMon Jun 05 1995 11:4528
    re .1

    Sorry

    > CREATE FORWARD DATA STATIC ENTRY 01-00-5E-00-00-05
    >	    DISPLAY FORWARD/LOG *

    should be :-

    	    CREATE FORWARD DATA STATIC ENTRY 01-00-5E-00-00-05
    	    DISPOSITION FORWARD/LOG *

    I guess I know what's the problem now but could somebody confirm this
    as the customer can only try out this weekend. Since 01-00-5E-00-00-05
    is a multicast address, he should instead used :-

    	    CREATE FORWARD DATA MULTICAST ENTRY 01-00-5E-00-00-05
    	    DISPOSITION FORWARD/LOG *

    That explain for the error "A multicast or broadcast address is not a
    valid identifier", right ?

    NB. Has not been supporting DECmcc for a while. What's the Corporate
        direction ? Are we still supporting it ?

    Thanks

    I don't *know* the answer to your multicast syntax query, but from
    pretty extensive use of MCC and DECnis bridge filters, I beleive that
    you *do* need to differentiate between static and multicast in the
    command syntax when actually referring to a multicast address.

    As for MCC support, I'm actively supporting it in the UK, V1.4 is
    available (more of a cumulative bug fix, then new release). There's a
    little more info in..
